Burger King 2019

I wonder if anyone else on CC applied this year? In one past thread, I saw that a letter of rec was part of consideration, but my child did not include a letter of rec. Was that a part of application that he missed? Also, when do semi finalists get notified- ballpark?

my son applied. It says april people would be notified if they get an award.

Our kid applied. It says incomplete applications will not be considered. Not sure about a letter of recommendation I will have to check with DH. April/May notifications are made

anyone heard anything?

DS was notified in mid-March that he is receiving the Whopper scholarship. That was much earlier than indicated in the website. From what I read elsewhere, they other scholarship notifications go out much later. So do not dispare if you haven’t yet heard.

around this time in previous years people were already getting notifications back

Daughter is still waiting. Did not receive an email either way. Anyone hear anything yet?

Nothing for my DD

my son hasn’t heard anything :frowning:

Did anyone else ever get an email?

Nothing yet in NH

Nope…

I got an email today that I received the $1000 non-renewable scholarship!

My son got the 1,000 email today. Nice!

I did not receive the scholarship. Congrats everyone ?

DD didn’t receive one

Rejected

got it!

Someone from Puerto Rico? I listed 20 activities, president and founder of 2 clubs, 4.00 GPA, 1290 SAT, and didn’t get it!

@GPH2356 I’m sorry that you didn’t receive it. I think being in PR presents a unique challenge because it is much harder to participate in national level events and that can certainly be a disadvantage. My son received the Whopper scholarship and his stats aren’t that different that yours at 1st glance 4.4 gpa, 1320 sat, no blanks on the 20 activities grid. But, it’s the details that can make the difference: over 1200 hours of community service primarily focused on leadership development and coaching other kids, president of 5 organizations + extensive service after pres term, state and national championships in individual and team events, eagle scout, completed his AA while in highschool with a 4.0, multiple terms as a state officer of a youth leadership organization, recepient of multiple national level awards from various organizations, active in faith and political organizations… Much of those would be cost prohibitive if we didn’t live in the Continental US.
Use the “any other info” space in the applications to explain the challenges competing/serving at a higher level due to being remote. Write a really good paragraph and have a couple of people check it to ensure it’s expository not whiney.
