I'm half way through the semester, 4.0 so far, and I am just burnt out. I used to be able to pull an all-day study session every day, 3-4 days in a row with no break other than to eat or sleep, but I can't bring myself to look at school stuff right now.

What's going on? I thought I was going to be able to sustain that work ethic forever. I normally get excited to work through some tough calc or physics problems, but right now I'd rather just sit in a chair and stare at the wall.

Take a break - see a movie, go to a party, read a book. Then find some people to study and do the homework WITH, you may find that mixing it up with a group will make the work more palatable.

Does engineering really require that much effort (to get a 4.0, congrats btw) or is his study ethics on the higher end of engineering-studying spectrum?

I knew a guy who was double majoring in math and physics, I think, who studied all day, except for eating, sleeping, and going to class. I don’t remember offhand what his grades were, but he may have been a straight-A student.

It might, depending on your circumstances. Many factors can influence how hard you need to study to earn a certain GPA, such as how much other students study, how professors grade their courses, how prepared you are for a particular subject (not always apparent from prerequisites), etc.

Sorry, I should have been more clear: I used to be able to pull 3-4 days in a row with no break (not that I always do or need to). It’s sort of cyclical. Right now, though, I barely feel motivated to do the bare minimum.

Maybe you’re over studying. If you know it, then you know it. You don’t need to review something 10 times even though you know that you already know it. Maybe start listing what you know and stuff you need help on. Focus on the stuff you need help on and the day before a test review everything. This is what I do anyways.

Well, maybe you would want to look back at what motivates you to get 4.0? Medschool? Law school? Masters? Self accomplishment?

If it is the first two then you should see how much u actually want to go to those schools and are you willing to spend the rest of your school life on only studying just to get inside those schools.

If its for masters… You dont really need that high of a grade… Try to get a research position and get a publication out is worth much more.

If it is the last reason… Well… I dont have much comment on that.
