Because I didn’t want to be one of those people that disappear into the ether I wanted to give you guys an update after first semester for my D19. I will be back soon because I have a D23.
My original post was closed so the link is below. D19 ended up at MiamiOH. We felt it was the best for the combination of fit/cost. Some cost less but we didn’t feel the fit was right. Some cost more and we weren’t sure the fit was that much better.
First semester had positives and negatives. D19 came home at Thanksgiving and told us she was moving out of her triple room after the semester was over. She said it was all set with the university. Props to her for doing all the legwork herself. She never got along with her roommates. She survived two of the harder classes that freshman take. Kids were dropping like flies early in the semester. Her GPA gave her some cushion to hold onto her merit $$$.
Life is definitely different when the kids are so far away. That has positives and negatives. Did I worry? Yes of course. Was it nice not to have some of the day to day drama in the house? Yes. Also less laundry.
D19 overall likes Miami. She has met some people. I think she has had some fun and some boredom. She went back to second semester willingly. Oh, if you have daughter it is very likely that she and her mom will get overly obsessed during the summer about dorm decoration. Ignore if you have son.
Lastly, I feel for all you going through the process now. As the different deadlines have past recently I reflected about what we were doing last year. It seemed like it was always hurry get something sent out and then wait for a decision. Hell, D19 won a $1K one year scholarship form Burger King and she still had to write 250 words before they would send her the check.
