Hey, i'm scheduled to dorm at BJ this coming quarter, and I'm living in a suite with a roommate at Salisbury house...can anyone tell me what that's like. How is BJ in general? Does it get depressing during the winter? Is there AC? I've only seen BJ from the outside and it's pretty out there. Are the suites big? I know there's like 2 rooms, but how big are the rooms?

Does anyone have any pics of the BJ dorm?

Let me try to pull up an admissions office blog...

Check the "College Admissions Marathon" post at the end. There's a narrative and some pictures of a BJ 2-room double.

However, all the 2-room doubles in BJ are different sizes, and I haven't been in any in Salisbury House.

And no AC-- good lord, you won't need it.

BJ is pretty cozy dorm living. The hallways are small and intimate, and while there are a couple of big parties every year, it's mostly pretty quiet and cozy. References to Hogwarts are made almost reflexively, and there's a dining hall in the dorm-- we share it with half of Shoreland and Breck.

The setup is a little crazy-- you go inside first, to the front desk, swipe your card in, and then you go outside to your house, which has a separate door in the courtyard. The houses are small and are very close-knit, which is 95% of the time wonderful and 5% of the time asphyxiating, as there is some house drama/ housecest, etc., but it's easily avoidable if you have friends from class and activities outside your house and hang out with them when things get ecch. I mention this because in BJ, it's easy to JUST be friends with the people in your house and decide that you're done meeting new people.

I actually loved the winter, but that's because I find warming up next to a fireplace in the Reynolds Club much more appealing than consistently blue skies and milder winter weather. You'll have to come up with some Winter Coping Management Techniques-- mine include angora wool (pricey, but for the benefit of being comfortable and happy, I do it), Swiss Miss, Doc Films and meandering around the city. The other day at home, the sky turned a flat gray, and it made me very homesick for Chicago.
