Hi everyone, I would like to know if admissions to BU CGS is very less competitive compared to the other colleges at BU. Is BU’s CGS a “community college” to train less competitive students to boost their academic records up and let them transfer in to the BU regular community or to another college/university?

It’s not a community college, but yes, it is less competitive to get into.

Can you answer my other question please? Is it possible to stand a good chance at transferring into a different college/university other than BU if do well for a year at CGS?

CGS does have lower standards to be admitted and you cannot stay in CGS for all 4 years at BU. Instead, they have a 2 year core program that all CGS students MUST take before they are allowed to transfer into another school here. So, no, you cannot transfer into another school after 1 year of good grades. However, if you placed out of some of those core classes such as math or econ through ap credits, ib, etc., you may start taking electives or core components of the school you do wish to attend(e.g. SMG, COM, CAS) if you already have a mindset for your major. Best of luck.

You HAVE to stay in CGS for two years?

For pete’s sake, go to the BU website and look at the CGS website. These are basic questions you should research yourself.

yes, you must stay in CGS for 2 years. even if you place out of many classes from the core curriculum, i believe you just end up taking more electives.

you can transfer from BU after 1 year in CGS though. One of my friends was in CGS for a year and then transferred to BC

Amongst others, I know people in CGS who transferred to USC, Wake Forest, Indiana. I left after a year too. CGS is very difficult, and I would not recommend it.
