GPA: 3.9
Pre-Reqs Completed: All completed with A’s but Calc 1/2 (Used AP test to satisfy Calc 1 at my CCC, got a B in Calc 2. This may have screwed me over.)
Pre-Reqs In Progress: None.
Extracurricular: Sports, work.
Program-TAP, honors, etc: None.
Work Hrs: About 15 hours a week.

Thought this was in the bag. Waiting on Berkeley now.

I know, omg, you guys all have AMAZING stats :(… i’m so sorry to hear! Seriously, I don’t understand why they can turn down someone with 3.9+ GPA, ECs, good essays, and TAP !!! My friend got in and I’m sure his GPA is <3.8, very few ECs, ok essays and TAP, plus he’s international student. @shuangshengzi: try appealing, don’t give up yet!!! is there any other school you applied to?

^ All the people with 3.6+ GPAs who have posted in this thread so far did not have TAP. I guess having TAP may have made a difference, but unfortunately, none of the CCs in my area offer it.

My school doesn’t even offer TAP. Their program isn’t ‘certified’ for Transfer Alliance :-/.

Anyway, LA perhaps saved you for UCB… My best friend transfered to UCB last year… Media Studies, 4.0 GPA. Denied at LA, accepted at Cal.
Anyhow, appeal appeal appeal.

i didnt have tap either. I think i got ****ed over cuz I got AP calc to satisfy calc 1 and i got an A in calc 2 but i have a feeling they rejected me because of that fact

thanks tatty. i applied ucb(pending), ucla(rej), ucsd(pending), ucsb(admit)
do any of you guys know how to appeal???
i’ve no idea at all…
thanks.

Last year, people were able to call and find out why they got rejected. I remember someone posted that they got rejected because UCLA accidentally labeled them as an international student and they were able to file an appeal and get in.

I had 3.94 GPA and the only class I got a B was English 103…

I thought I had a decent chance getting into Buz Econ because not only I completed all the pre-req with A’s, but I also finished Calculus 1-3

The only disadvantage that I had was I did not have TAP :(

So for all of you future UCLA applicants, if you reeeeally want to get into UCLA, especially into those impacted majors, better have your TAP certified…

Even a GPA of 4.0 without TAP would not beat a GPA of 3.85 with TAP…

(Thanks for the info jetForcegeminix, I will try to call UCLA on Monday to figure out the reason I got rejected. Since I’m not a US citizen and I’m currently a green card holder, I hope that was not the reason I got rejected… lol)

cgee89:
I am taking English 103 (Intermediate College Writing) @ Cypress College this semester and am expecting a B or C, if not worse, from the class. I’m glad that I’m taking it this semester…
And you should definitely call them to see why they rejected you.
My stats:
Biz-econ admitted
I held green card until this Feburary. (I became a citizen :)). However, my profile on the UC application indicated that I am a permanent resident though because when I applied for UCs last November, I was still holding green card.
4.0 GPA as of the end of fall 2008 semester.
IGETC will be completed this semester
No TAP
ECs: really not much
Work experience: a year

When you call them, don’t mention me though.
I am scared that they might rescind my admission. Orz

rejected here, and i applied for regular econ since i thought i would have a better chance…

gpa: 3.85
pre reqs completed by winter, B in calc 1st quarter, rest A’s
igetc by spring
ec’s: a few, not too much not too little, at least i thought
no tap, no honors
essays: average probably

no, I have a 3.93 with no tap and got into ucla biz econ. My school doesn’t offer tap though. That might be the reason. I think it comes down to essays and EC’s. I had an intership at my county’s auditing office. I had done substantial work with a police department. I wrote an excellent essay. I think my passion for economics came through in the application, and that is why I think I got in.

Bottom line for future UCLA ECON applicants: you must have at least a 3.9 and must show that you are really passionate and commited to UCLA. Applying to biz econ just because you want a business degree and its the only uc equivalent beside haas won’t cut it. So do some interships, get obsessed with getting in. I probably have 60+ hours on this forum in the last year.
