Is there a bus or train station near Grinnell that would go to chicago? How far are they from the campus? Are there ways to get to the stations from campus if you cannot walk (shuttle bus, eg)?

grinnell offers shuttle service to and from Chicago for vacation times.

thankyouuu

There is also a regular Greyhound bus going from and to Chicago directly to the College!

The school has always been very accommodating when it comes to rides to the airport. I am sure that they would drop off at a train station too.

Grinnell runs occasional shuttles to Chicago and to the Des Moines airport near breaks. Here is the link to the schedule:

The trick is scheduling flights so you can make the shuttle. Otherwise cab fare is about $100.
There is no ride board or organized way of finding cab sharers.

I saw ride signs posted on the bulletin board in the mailroom.

When I visited, I believe I heard from someone that GC has some sort of rent-a-car possibility on or near the campus for a nominal hourly rate - LT $10 / hr. I wonder if this service can be availed to go to the airport? Of course, the assumption is that the car can somehow be returned back to GC.

There is a car-sharing program through Connect by Hertz that is new this year. If you didn’t have a car, it would be great. Not sure it’s a great option for the airport, though, due to the problem you cite–getting it back to campus.
