Bus Passes

I have read that Cornell gives out bus passes to its transfers and freshmen, but what about everyone else? Do they pay for the bus? if so how much is it? Is the bus reliable and does it stop more or less all over campus?

Everyone else has to pay for their bus pass...the cost is $200. It's not a bad deal if you plan to ride the bus everywhere. I had a free pass for 2 years...bought one this year and it was a waste for me.

The bus is reliable and goes pretty much everywhere on campus and into Ithaca.

I just find it weird that Cornell charges for every minute thing, such as printing, bus service, cable, internet, and telephone. I mean I get all of that for free in my current SUNY and I pay half the tuition. I just find it weird that stuff like that is not included in the tuition bill, but is extra.

By the way, I did not mean to offend anyone with this statement. Sorry if I did.

Eh...I was a SUNY student once. I used to complain...you get over it.

The regular full year TCAT pass is $400 or so...so $200 is a deal.

Buses are free after 6PM on weekdays and all day on weekends so there really isn't a need to buy a bus pass unless you're too lazy to walk to class.

I will warn all those with free bus passes...when snow days start to come, make sure you get on the bus at least 30mins prior to start of class...

buses will fill up and there will be no room for you :)

oh...yeah...I forgot about that part

I never rode the bus...still don't know why I wasted money on the pass :-)

i would often get to class drenched b/c it would be hotter than a crotch inside the bus!

hahaha, gross

i believe they have a new rule now that says that freshmen and transfers get the bus free for a year, but after that, you can still ride the bus for free as long as you dont have a car with you on campus

that would be pretty nice

i agree with blazinyan...one of the first things i noticed about cornell is how it charges for very minute things - gym, internet overuse, cable, bus pass after freshman year, etc. etc. I just dont really get it, are the services superior since they're paid for?

Is the welfare of Cornell University THAT bad?? Because I know students in public universities such as UC-Berkeley at least get free gym and bus.

A lot of those services at public universities are subsidized by the state...at least this is what I was told.

but the internet overuse charge is like $0.0015 for each MB or something. i got charged extra each month, but no more than like $2

On the contrary, why should students who would never use things like the gym or cable pay for it?

I didn't use the fitness centers or use the cable in my room once, and I certainly don't think my tuition money should go for students who choose to do such things.

you have to consider that tuition is already reduced for New York State Residents...so it is probably for this reason that our tuition isnt used for these purposes...

But I'm an international student and if I get in I have to pay like $48000 or something to that effect if I am accepted XD...

It's only reduced for NYS residents in CALS, ILR and HumEc

those students make up a big part of the university...

one could argue that the fees are a bit outrageous for the space and equipment available...

i think cornell should only charge students for these if new facilities or equipment is purchased kind of like. we'll charge this class and next year's class until the equipment is bought and paid for (:

this could actually be a campaign issue for students running for student assembly...

It's been a campaign issue for the last thirty years. Make everything free!

Parking! Fitness centers! Meal plans! Bus passes!

Or you could just let the students who actually want to use it pay for it.
