So I've heard good and bad about this hall. I think it's really pretty and the room size is nice but are people really super anti-social there? That's a lot of what I'm hearing... I'm not a partied and I definitely prefer a dorm that is a bit quieter but I'm also social and want to make friends. Would this be a good dorm option if I go to Illinois next year?

Oh and is it really that strict about male visitors? I’d like my boyfriend to be able to visit occasionally.

I am a guy and had a friend who lived there freshman year. Basically, the place has tons of locked doors so intruders can’t get far unless they manage to get a card from a student there.

Kind of its own world in there, I never saw other guys there, but it was certainly alright to let visiting guys come in if your room mate allowed it. I feel like some girls there are totally not used to being around guys while others are normal. Anyways, you may want to look into activities they do there. Once they had a dance and it was so awkward because it was like 2 guys with a bunch of girls standing around awkwardly while the friends of the guys danced with them, haha. Funny memories… Lol

Not a bad cafeteria and the location is reasonably close to the “Quad.”

Thanks everyone! Does anyone know anything about the private housing Newman Hall? I liked that one as well but wasn’t sure how much the price difference is from normal university housing.

My son stayed there for two years. It’s the closest PCH to the quad. Very close. It is slightly more than a traditional dorm, but is very nice. It is Catholic, but while you’ll get emails regarding Catholic stuff to get involved in, they don’t hit you over the head with it. Many non-catholics stay there. The rooms are laid out in suites that have a common room that then has an entrance to the hall. You really should go on a tour to see for your self. The food is cafeteria style, so it gets old but my son tells me it was ok.

All the information is on their website, but you need to get your reservation in soon because it fills up fast. Check it out in person to really get a feel for the space and the students that live there.

Thanks! I like that Newman is close to everything and I’ve heard now from multiple people that they don’t really force the religious aspect on people which I like. Any cons to Newman? Any other suggestions for private housing at uiuc? I’m starting to narrow down my options and I’m definitely leaning toward private housing so any suggestions or tips would be great!

Armory House is the other I’m interested in
