Business Administration vs Psychology

I am a sophomore in college. When the time comes, I hope to earn my masters in industrial and organizational psychology. (A field that is almost equivalent as business administration well towards the HR/management section.) In the graduate program I want to attend, the pre-requisites are at least 15 credits in psychology, along with statistics classes, and several research classes. All I need is a bachelor in any field and meet the pre-requisites I stated above. (I already have the 15 credits in psychology for the pre-requisites above and I do not mind taking more psych classes.)

Just in case if I cannot attend graduate school right away, I know for a fact with a bachelors in psych, getting a job in the field is difficult.

Is getting a job in the business field with a bachelors in business administration hard as well?

I have two options here…

Should I get my bachelors in psychology with a minor in business? (I will finish in 2 years)
OR
Should I get a bachelors in business administration with a minor in psychology? (If I do this option then I will finish in 2 and a half years)

Any advice???

I’m in the organizational development and training field of human resources. I prefer psych major/business minor. That’s what I had…that’s what I preferred to hire. What I did is that I worked for a year, then went back for my Masters in Human Resource Development. You may alternatively want to get your MBA in a school that has an HR concentration, which will set you up better for big consulting companies. If you want to do OD, a master’s is fine. But for classic I/O it’s a ph.D. Do an internship now, while you are in school! Try to get it in the OD dept of a big company, if you can. DO NOT think that you can start out in any part of HR and then “transfer” skills into OD. It doesn’t work like that in the field. You MUST start out in OD, HRD or leadership development training to have a career in the OD field. We are a bunch of snobs!

Thank you for the advice. I thought I was wasting my time. Currently, I am doing an internship but it ends soon. After I will look for internships in the OD dept. And yes the I/O Master Program has an HR concentration. Thanks again!
