Because Irvine's undergraduate business administration major is new, is it possible that there are a limited amount of spots available and therefore harder to get accepted for? Has anyone else here applied for the business major and received an acknowledgment of acceptance? If so, what are your stats?

I think it’s one of the harder programs to get into. They only enroll like 150 or so people a year.

Omgsdflksdjlfskflsd what if i am not accepted.

theres always an alternative major?

I got into CHP for Irvine with the Business administration major.

SAT: 2160
SAT II: Math II 790, Chem 780, US History 760
ACT: 34
UC GPA: 4.3
Internship at hospital, other job experience, student supervisor volunteering @ a hospital.
No sports

AP: Calc AB, Euro, Chem: 5’s

Sorry if this question is kind of random, but does anyone know if i still have a chance to get regents? Or do people only get notified about regents when they get the acceptance letter?

they tell you when you’re admitted.

I’m a freshmen in UCI right now, and i’m a business admin major.
during our SPOP, we were notified that we have 78 freshmen accepted into the program and our class size is 150. we were told that out of 150, 78 are freshmen, 2 people were uci former uci students changing their major in their junior year, and 70 people are transfers. business admin program in uci is very competitive to get in. good luck.

@aishxashley can you share your stats with us ?

did a quick search of her post. Kinda Low GPA wise but could have went to a really rigorous high school in California. Lynbrook, Lowell, Whitney, Monta Vista, Gunn comes to mind

"
this was my stats as i applied for uci last year.
uc gpa: 3.91
cumulative unweighted: 3.69
cumulative weighted 3.85
sat: 1940
act: 29
bio sat: 700
math 2c: 750
korean: 790.

1st choice major: business admin
2nd choice major: undeclared.

i got accepted as undeclared, but luckily, business admin had openings in june, so i was able to switch.

although your gpa is lower than the average, so was mine.
And you have much better AP scores than I do.
just make sure that you know that business admin is a really popular major and they have a capped amount of students they can accept, so even if you don’t get in as business admin, you can always get accepted by your 2nd choice major.

and i advise that you get started on your personal statements now and continue to revise when school resumes.

I wish you the best!

Just received my acceptance to UCI about a week ago. I was worried because a lot of my friends received theirs almost over a month ago. I applied for Business Administration and didn’t put a second choice. In retrospect, I think I got lucky getting in. I didn’t do any research on their Business program and don’t know what I would do if I didn’t get in. Anyway my stats, if anyone is curious:

UC GPA: 3.68 (Yes, it’s kind of low, but I go to a competitive school, one of the ones peterr86 mentioned above. Had a lot of Ap/Honors though but you can only add 8 extra points.)

SAT I: 2070
SAT II Math: 770
SAT II Chinese: 790
SAT II Chem: 710

-100 Volunteer Hours
-Not that many clubs
-Decent essays

Still waiting on Davis and Santa Barbara. Would Irvine be better for Business than the others?

@cacophonous i wish i was in your position. Out of the three, UCI’s business program is new (the first graduating class is 2012) but i hear it’s actually pretty good

@cacophonous Depends what kind of Business you’re going into. I think Santa Barbara has a pretty good accounting program. I don’t think Davis has a business program for undergraduates?

@moey

I was considering going into accounting, or maybe finance. I just got my acceptance from UCSB today. SB doesn’t have an actual undergrad business school…does that mean that their business program isn’t as good/organized?

I’m not too sure if the business school thing matters. I’ve heard from others that the UCSB program is pretty good. You should try searching threads or making your own for UCSB vs UCI for accounting/finance.
Finance is totally different though, I know at UCI finance isn’t that big at all, so not much recruitment goes on.
As for Accounting, I looked at the Accounting Association for UCSB, and it seems like more firms recruit there than at UCI.
Also, if USCB is like UCI, the core classes for Econ and Bus Admin are pretty different. Business Administration is like managerial classes that give you an overall grasp of management, whereas Economics is really econ focused.

UCSB and UCI have totally different environments though, so if there’s one you know you want, you may consider going there.

Congrats on your acceptances!!! :)
