Business AND LAC

Hi! I am trying to find some schools that are a good match for me, I want to pursue business but I also like the idea of having a liberal arts education. So, are there any schools that offer business but also have a 'college' of sorts within the university as well, so I can take classes in both schools and get the best of both worlds! (i.e. Georgetown) I want a school that is not too big, pretty campus, school spirit, good study abroad program and language department (for spanish) But, I need a school that offers some degree of merit aid. Stats: Female / 30 ACT (retook in oct) / 89-94 increase in GPA from fresh-junior year / lots of ecs&leadership.

Help please!

American..

i looked at american but i do not think the academics are as strong as i would hope...

look at small universities like emory, tulane, wake forest

Would Bucknell and University of Richmond work?

I agree w/ NEmom about Bucknell. It is a top ranked LAC with a School of Business. (It just became a "School" from a department with plans to become a College of Business.) Bucknell also has a College of Engineering (placed in top 5 or 10 for engineering for schools w/o a graduate program). And it will also have, of course, the College of Liberal Arts.

I have heard great things about Bucknell, but I have also heard that it is not close to any substantial metropolitan area or small city (essentially, it is isolated). I would prefer to be within close proximity to a bit of a metropolitan area. Is this true about Bucknell?

majoring in economics in a LAC is just about as good as business

Yes it is true that it is not within close proximity to a big metropolitan area. However, it does meet all your other criteria. It is not too big, has a gorgeous campus, D1-A sports (so big school spirit), and a large percentage of students study abroad.

Although it is not near a city, it is not isolated. I've visited top ranked schools that you have to drive an hour or two on back country roads to get to the campus. Bucknell is an exit off I-80, a major highway going across country.

I actually was thinking about majoring in economics (with a minor/double major in spanish) as an alternative to studying business. There are just too many options! Ahhhhh... so overwhelming! Thank you for the input, I will definitely look more into Bucknell.

university of richmond

Same thing with Richmond as Bucknell -- Isn't it fairly isolated from any real metropolitan area or town?

No, Richmond is not isolated at all. It's located within city limits, and as I recall, the greater Richmond area serves a population of over 800,000 people.

Holy Cross (Worcester,MA has commuter rail to Boston) is top ranked Catholic LAC per USNWR and has an AACSB-accredited accounting program and strong econ program.

I don't know if you'd be eligible for merit aid at any of the above schools with your GPA and ACT score, they are all very competitive. (Those sound like academic match schools for you.) A very up and coming school, in a nice area is Loyola College of Maryland, in Baltimore. They are changing their name to a University in about a year and their business program is ranked. (I am not sure which list.) You would probably be eligible for a nice amount of merit aid there. I don't think you'd get merit aid at a match school.

Washington & Lee is one of the few LACs that has UG business majors. I would also echo Bucknell and Lafayette may have similar offerings. Depending on what you're looking to do, a major in economics could be just as good, if not better than a major in business.

I really do want a school that is near a fairly metropolitan area and I know people have said Bucknell is not near one, and I know people who go to W&L and I remember them reiterating the same thing. But, I will look more into these schools because who knows... I may fall in love with them.

Does anyone know if Rice has a good economics program?
