Business and Vanderbilt

I really like Vanderbilt as a school, but there is no undergraduate business major and business is a career I have wanted to pursue for a long time. I realize that economics is an option at Vanderbilt, but math is really not my subject.

Is there any other major at Vanderbilt that would be helpful with being admitted to a good graduate school and with pursuing a business career in the future? Do you think I should go with that path or just get over my infatuation with Vandy and attend a school with a business program.

Several things. Business is a very ambiguous term - many people say they want to go into business, but have very little idea what that means. Do you have a concentration in the business field you are particularly interested in (finance, management, marketing, etc.)? I find it interesting that math “isn’t your subject” but you want to major in business - as a business major, many of your classes will rely on mathematics concepts, so you should be prepared to do a considerable amount of math. Vanderbilt is obviously a very good school and you shouldn’t have trouble getting into grad school if you do well there and get some work experience.

I have grown up in the business world and I do realize that there is a broad spectrum of business related majors.

When I say that math “isn’t my subject” I’m not saying that I am not good at it or don’t expect to encounter it in college, but that I’d rather enter a business field that doesn’t rely heavily on it because it isn’t something I am as interested in. For example, I would be much more inclined to major in a business major such as management or human resources instead of finance or accounting. Therefore, economics would not be a practical major for me.

So, does anyone know of an undergraduate major at Vanderbilt (other that economics) that would be helpful to my goal of pursuing a career in business?

Vanderbilt does have an 18-credit Managerial Studies minor in the College of Arts and Science. Here’s the link: [Home : Managerial Studies : Vanderbilt University](http://www.vanderbilt.edu/managerialstudies/) You can specialize in corporate strategy, financial economics, or leadership and organization (offered as a joint program with Peabody College of Education and Human Development).

Peabody offers a major in Human and Organizational Development which might be of interest to you: [HOD Undergraduate Major](http://peabody.vanderbilt.edu/Human_and_Organizational_Development/HOD_Undergraduate_Program.xml)

Thank you! Those sound a lot like what I am looking for.

Would it be more beneficial to major in a major such as the ones mentioned above or to go for a school that actually has an undergraduate business program? I am trying to make the decision that would best help me to succeed at being admitted to a good graduate school.
