Business Calculus

depends on the school. business programs sometimes just need business calc, economics programs sometimes require more calculus because I think some of the courses just need a bit more math (such as intro to microeconomic theory, econometrics, etc)

thanks for the info dcfca, but here's the problem: if i want to go into something business-related and have to take many math courses (i'm not so great at math) and get bad grades and struggle, then won't those bad grades weigh heavily to my disadvantage to the admissions people at law school, or any other graduate school ? I don't want to screw up my undergrad grade record just bec. I liked business and had to suffer bec. I didn't do great on the math part of it. after all, your undergrad grades are really important, aren't they?

ive asked my advisor at my college ( im a business major too) and the math or the parts of calculus you use is pretty basic and fairly easy. as long as you're above average and not incompetent, i dont think you should worry about it. im using my calc. ab credit to skip out of business calc. for my school.

ok dcho711, that's good to hear. you're probably right about the math in business and calc being fairly simple, i mean those aren't math-specific or math-concentrated majors anyhow.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm going to take "Math for Business & Economics" first. There are no pre-requisites for it, meaning anyone can take it...but I don't want to take it and end up with less than like a B+. Does this class seem hard or something you would need a great backround for? Here's the course description...

"Linear equations and inequalities, exponents and logarithms, matrices and determinants, linear programming. Applications."

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks...

at my schools business calculus is essentially the same as AB, but it doesn't use trig functions. so instead of evaluate the limit at blah of sin(blah), its just evaluate the limit at blah of blah. I think next year they're changing the name for us from business calculus to intro to calculus. Basically easy calculus?

I’m not really nervous about taking Business Calculus even though I only went as high as algebra 2 in High School. I’ve been watching videos of Business Calculus on youtube, it doesn’t look that bad if you pay attention and do your work.

I know this is from 6/27/2006, but KG974:

Amazing prediction, simply amazing. Especially because it was 4 years in advance.

I’m in it right now. I would suggest to take pre-calc before or even better pre-calc and trig. Or maybe your school has the class where you can take pre-calc/trig in the same class?

EDIT: oops just realized it was a 4 yr old thread lol

bumped. Old thread but I have the same question if anyone knows.
