I'm looking at doing Marketing in the future, not really into the whole Econ thing, and definitely not too much math. I got into UC Davis for Econ (switching to Managerial Econ), UC Irvine's Business Econ, and UCSD's Management Science (maybe I can switch to Econ?), and I'm not too sure where to go right now. I'm really looking at Davis and Irvine. What do you guys recommend? I love both schools equally!

do you enjoy econ? haha. if you do, then they’re all excellent, i believe ucsd has an amazing econ program. if you want to do marketing and you don’t like econ, i think you should cross off UCI and go for davis’ managerial science or ucsd’s mgmt science. you have some good choices–but that’s JUST my opinion.

i advise you to look at the courses you need for the majors–some times that is a make it or break it.

Really? I’m not too fond of UCSD just because I heard Management Science is basically all econ with a heavy emphasis of math. Have you heard good things about Davis Managerial Econ though?

You can take Marketing classes at the Merage School of Business while you’re here also you can get into the management minor…A lot of people that don’t get into the Business Admin program here go the Business Econ Major + Management Minor route…This combo looks better than a straight Managerial Econ degree from UCD imo. The Business Admin major, while new, is amazing here. The faculty line-up is awesome. I personally chose UCI over Davis as a freshman and couldn’t be more happy with that decision. I applied as a change of major to the Business Admin major and am so psyched! (The admissions reps said I have a good shot)…UCI hands down is the best option in your case. UCSD is great for econ (yes, better than UCI), but they don’t have Business Econ and it sounds like that’s not what you want to do. I hope you see reason in what I have said and take it into consideration. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey sandaboy! I’ve seen your Business Econ stats while I lurk around and they’re amazing, and I hope your appeal for UCLA goes through. If you don’t mind, is it okay if I email or message you? I have a lot more questions about the UC Irvine Biz Econ program.

And even without being a Business Admin major, I am still able to take Marketing classes at the Business school? Thanks so much for your help; I was kind of hoping someone who have had experience would post.

Here is the list of classes for Fall '10 at UCI Merage…I think you can take the marketing
classes as the Restrictions are A&B (Not L)…But I would still call and ask the Merage School tomorrow.

In my experience the program here is not at all hard because most professors are GREAT at explaining and there is usually a generous curve in all Biz Econ classes here. In my Econ 100B class, there was a curve where the mean was considered a ‘B’ even though the actual mean was in the 60s lol

Oh and here is info on the management minor (it’s not that hard to get into, but you have to apply for it)

Alright, so I see that Business Econ requires 20 courses.

A. Economics 20A-B.
B. Economics 15A-B.
C. Economics 25.
D. Mathematics 2A-B and 4.
E. Economics 100A-B-C.
F. Economics 122A-B.
G. Seven additional Economics courses
Breadth requirements.

I think I completed all the breadth requirements (IGETC) and finished Econ20A/B and Math2A/B. So that means I will have junior and senior year to complete 16 courses to just get my degree? That doesn’t seem like a lot at all…
Well, with a Management minor, I guess that will equal out to 7 extra course

^
yeah dude! Do you have upper div. writing done?? If you don’t, then add that to your list. Also, you need 1 course for computer education (social science 3A–it was hella easy btw) so if you don’t have that, add that to your list as well (this is a school of social sciences requirement). But yeah man, looks like you can graduate WITH a minor by taking like 4 classes a qaurter till graduation.

I personally have 10 classes left for the major (LOL) and then add 7 for the minor, so 17…that’s like 17 divided by 6 quarters which is like 3 classes a quarter.

If I get into the business admin major, I wouldn’t do the minor in management obviously and then I would just need less than three classes a quarter. Many people don’t know this but the Business Admin major at UCI is hellla short. I know some people that are going to try and graduate early.

^ I know, I’m so jealous because Business Admin has the Marketing Concentration that I want!!

Wow this sounds pretty good. I didn’t take the Computer course yet, but I’m sure I can just do that over summer at my CC here. Not too sure if I fulfilled the upper div writing course either (dunno how to check to see if it corresponds with any of my CC courses bc it’s not on assist).

Thanks so much. I actually didn’t get into one of the important courses for Calc earlier this quarter though, so I think I might get rescinded since I’m admitted with conditions. :(

If they do, I guess I’ll be SIRing with Davis for Managerial Econ. Thank you for your help though.
