Is this major harder to get in than other majors? Would it be wiser to be "undeclared" and transfer into the program?

no difference in terms of UCLA undergraduate admissions. all majors within the college of letters and sciences have no effect on admissions.

everyone has to complete the bizecon pre-reqs and then apply to be in the major regardless if they came in pre-bizecon or not.

Happy 2,500th post kfc4u.

oh wow didn't even notice! darn, wanted to make a special post. o well. thanks!

How does the program compare with Berkeley's economics or business program? How does it compare with other schools, like USC? Also, would getting an internship help my chances getting into the business economics school?

Dont forget UCSD spydimag. It has the 10th best econ department in the country, rated by US News.

not sure about whether getting an internship or not helps your chances into the biz-econ major. i'd think no, since the pre-reqs are academically based.

anyway, UCLA biz-econ graduates are said to be of comparable quality to USC marshall (biz admin) graduates. i would think that biz-econ is rated slightly higher than berkeley econ, but berkeley Haas business is better than both UCLA bizecon and USC marshall. in sum,

Berkeley Haas > UCLA bizecon = USC marshall > UCB/UCLA econ

Uhhhh....UCSD = 10th best econ dept. in country. Again, rated by US News.

i dont think as many business related business recruit grads from ucsd

Thanks for all the opinions. Any others?

southpasdena:

Business-related business?

"i dont think as many business related business recruit grads from ucsd"

Post only if you have facts.

Wow, you never fail to amuse me buddy.

on this site, the business that people usually refer to include finance and consulting. Why dont you find out who recruits at ucsd. You will find IT companies, fortune 500's, a bank or two from local san diego offices (citi and morgan) and local fund managers/mutual funds

how about instead of saying post only if you have facts, post where did you get these facts from, dont assume i am just pulling things out of no where unless you ask and find out first. Contact the career office if you like, calling and emailing can be more beneficial than assuming things.

"Wow, you never fail to amuse me buddy."

Now honestly....why are you always stocking me?

Here's your facts southpasdena:

what facts are those....i already know that ucsd is ranked 10th in the nation for GRADUATE economics. I have visisted that department website many times, what does that have to prove?

i get what southpasdena is trying to say. the hard-business firms (think ibanks, consulting, accounting big 4, etc.) don't focus their recruiting attention at UCSD because the overall caliber of the undergraduate students isn't high enough. these hard-business firms primarily look for US News top 25 (sometimes not even that "low") plus maybe a few others. you still can break into these hard-business firms, but i get the feeling (not a fact, sorry) that there are more people headed towards in-house business at a corporation (soft-business), etc.

"what facts are those....i already know that ucsd is ranked 10th in the nation for GRADUATE economics. I have visisted that department website many times, what does that have to prove?"

Why are you being so ignorant? You told me to post where i got the information, so I did. Dont get mad just because Im right.

you get local financial firms mainly, but the problem is there are only a few local that a really big that actually recruit such as pimco and capital group which will only recruit undergrads, their grads come from harvard, stanford so on and so forth.

I didnt tell you to post where you go your info from, you told me to dummy.
