Hi,
I just got admitted and I am wondering who else got in as a Pre-Business Economics for Fall 2013?
Any alumni/transfers from the past who were admitted to the major have any advice for those considering the program?
I am mainly concerned about the courses need to be completed and meeting the GPA requirement before being accepted to the actual major.
I prefer to mainly here from transfers, but I'll appreciate your input no matter what.
Thanks!

Anyone willing to provide insight?

Econ dept blows ass. I hope you are truly interested in accounting to salvage the major and are not purely taking this class as a substitute for a “business major”. Most of the econ is purely theoretical and has little real world application except for in extreme circumstances. Maybe it’s just the teachers I’ve had, but I’ve had to self-teach myself alot just to pass some of the Econ classes.

As for the mgmt department, in my opinion, it is very well run (probably because it is run by the Anderson school and is practically and separate entity from UCLA undergrad). I would recommend Litt (although many find him dry, his tests are just different numbers from sample problems and he gives real life examples) and Klein. Klein is probably one of the best teachers I’ve had in my life. I honestly will miss his humor and wacky examples.

Take this with a grain of salt from a 3.6 BizEcon/Acctg senior about to graduate in 6 weeks.

Binks09, what type of job offers have you gotten? What about your peers in BizEcon with x gpa ?

Is anyone else able to agree with binks09, or at least be able to share their thoughts and experience with the program so far?

I’ll be 100% honest here - I’ve done absolutely 0 with regards to recruiting/job search/etc…

However, I’ve gotten my job opportunities through networking. I’ve worked the last 4 years during summers and PT during school doing some bookkeeping and some sales work for a company in east LA. My dad used to work at the company before passing away 4 years ago, so that was my in there.

Also, I just completed a tax internship at a decent sized firm outside of LA. I should hear back within a few weeks if I have a job, but I’m hoping so. If not, job apps begin flying out in a few weeks. (FWIW, the internship paid 20/hour, basically mandatory overtime of 4 hrs/day, $10 dinner allowance if you worked > 10 hours/day, and some other fringe benefits —> and that was just as an intern:))

Like I said, take what I said with a grain of salt. But there were numerous instances where UCLA screwed me over and really made my life a living hell. Honestly, it would be worse if not for many of the MGMT professors helping me out with allowing me to do things like take finals early.
