business/engineering suggestions

Lehigh does have a bad reputation for being a party school and a greek life scene that dominates campus. I’ve also heard that ethnic groups and those from lower economic classes do not fit in very well and that the campus is predominantly “white and preppy” as a result (numbers may say differently but it feels like it)

What is you say is partly true, but the “white and preppy” thing is characteristic of a large number of medium-size privates…the same could be said of any school in the patriot league, for example. Don’t be fooled by any party-school labels, though, Lehigh is very rigorous academically, and for the area the OP is interested in, it is one of the best.

sorry to keep bumping this thread but i have a lot of questions =x

chuy: do most civil engineers take the PE exam? I checked all the schools and they’re all ABET certified for civil eng
pierre: i think a 3.1 at a top 100 hs might be better than my 3.8 cus my hs is in the bottom quarter of the state.
erinsdad: well my parents said they had to pay full freight according to fasfa when they filed for my siblings. theyre gonna be paying 3 tuitions so idk how much aid i’d actually get if any. we’re middle class and can’t really afford that so yes, i am applying for fin aid
rog: i have nothing against frats i just prefer schools where the social scene doesn’t mainly revolve around it.

also, how hard is it to study abroad when majoring in engineering? i’ve heard its pretty difficult to keep up & usually ends up in taking an extra semester or year.

Delaware has a good study abroad program during its extended winter session, goes from the typical end of first semester(December 15-18 till almost second week of Feb.) Thats when all the Engineering students wishing to study abroad will do so, any other program most engineering students can’t fit it in without extra semester.WIth your stats you would most likely get money/honors at Delaware. Very supportive Engineering students/department.
Sizeable school but has a much smaller feel to it, enthusiastic students/friendly, very small frat presence.

“chuy: do most civil engineers take the PE exam? I checked all the schools and they’re all ABET certified for civil eng”

From what I’ve heard Civil engineering is the most important major to have ABET certification for.

If you will be looking for FA you should keep NJIT or Rutgers on your list since you would be eligible for good aid from them. OOS publics put most of their $ toward instate students. Consider some privates who might be willing to send some merit or FA $ your way.
