Business Leadership Program

Does anyone have experience in this program to explain the advantages / differences for students involved? Would love to hear from parents or students involved or informed. Thanks!

Hi puma12,

I’m a freshman at UPS this year and am currently in the Business Leadership Program.

The BLP was actually one of the biggest draws to UPS for me; not many liberal arts colleges have programs like this, let alone a school of business. It’s an awesome way to get a business degree, but also get what a liberal arts education provides (small class sizes, amazing professors, an intellectually challenging and supportive environment, a multitude of other subjects to study, etc.)

The BLP is very well-respected, both on and off campus. Graduates of the program go on to do amazing things, be it top-notch graduate schools, great jobs, etc. In fact, a lot of the guest speakers who come to talk to the BLP kids are graduates of the BLP themselves, people now working for companies like Disney, Microsoft, Starbucks, Holland America Cruise Lines, graphic design firms, national banks, etc.

The program does a really good job at integrating business and leadership studies with the liberal arts, providing you with a very well-rounded education in a supportive, close-knit community. Plus, the many seminars we have to attend are really interesting and informative, and sometimes lead to great networking opportunities.

It’s not quite as rigorous or competitive as it’s touted to be, but for those who choose to be in it, it’s a very rewarding experience and probably one of the best (if not the best) thing you can do with your undergraduate years.

If the BLP is an important part of your decision whether or not to attend Puget Sound, I encourage you to take a good look at it; I think it could be just what you’re looking for. Don’t hesitate to contact students (like me) or faculty from Puget Sound for more information.

Hope that helps a bit, and good luck in the app. process!

Thanks mjh. Can you give me more of an idea of what exactly is different if you are in the BLP than if you are just a regular business major? How many classes are different? Do you have the same core requirement as everyone else? Do you get some internship opportunities or something like that? Are the BLP requirements instead of something else, or in addition to what you have to do if you aren’t in BLP for your requirements in terms of core, distribution, major, etc.
Thanks for all the info! It sounds like you really like it, so that’s cool.

Puma12 + MJH2010
how would u compare Puget Sounds business program to Santa Clara University program?

Puma -
A regular business major is only required to do 10 units to fulfill their major requirements (1 class = 1 unit, btw) while a BLP student is required to do 13 units. I think the additional courses are calc (a regular business major doesn’t have to do calc), another econ class (a regular business major only needs to do one econ class while a BLP student has to do two), and I THINK another business course. BLP students are also required to have an internship in order to graduate sometime over the course of the four years while a regular business major doesn’t. BLP students also take classes together, which is cool because classes get set aside for us and totally makes registration easier since we’re basically guaranteed to get into our classes relating to BLP.

P.S. - I LOVE BLP!

What are the stats for the average student accepted to the BLP program as a freshman?

^^ Would like to know the same thing!
