Cheapseats, I hear your frustration. Please keep your chin up and try to realize that you will get out of your college experience what you put into it, regardless of the campus. If you work hard, make contacts with professors, volunteer for positions within the business school, and find meaty internships, you will succeed at whichever school you attend. You sound very mature and serious about your future. You have my vote of confidence! :)

Thanks worry. I think that it is looking like UMD to me unless the finances really work out at either penn state or UW. I don't know how they could beat my love for UMD or the instate tuition but we'll see.

Thanks everyone for all your help. If you have anything else feel free to say something but I'll update this in a few weeks or so when I get financial stuff and hear back from UT and Umich. Thanks.

i decided on UMCP. I was denied from UT and am STILL waiting on Umich. SOBs :D. I got $7000 from UMCP in money i don't have to pay back and about 6,000 in extra aid. The instate tuition can't be matched for me so that was it! I was thinking about PSU as they gave me 7200 in aid i didn't have to pay back but really i don't want to go and live in PSU. Wisconsin was out of the picture once I noticed that I had absolutely no place there for me.

At UMD i got into the business scholars program that enrolls like 70 students and that gave me a place to start at UMD. I don't really feel like a number as the program has its own field trips to many different places and has its own advisors. You also dorm with students in your specific program so I really do have a spot at UMD for me. At wisconsin i would be just a person in the language and science college.

I am OFFICIALLY a Terp now. that feels good.

Thank you everyone for all your advice. Even if I went the other way you made me think long and hard about it! :D

Congratulations on reaching a decision and feeling good about it, Cheapseats! I'm very happy for you. Have you already shared your stats somewhere? I'd love to know what's required for the business scholars program as my child would be very interested in it next year.

It's letters and sciences.

Sounds well reasoned. Enjoy UM.

thanks barrons, and yeah i meant letters and sciences transfer :D

worrywort- At UMD there are 13 scholar programs. If someone applies before the December 1st priority deadline they are automatically considered to be in scholars. When admitted to the school they offer scholars to some who are admitted. These students then havet to pick their top 3 choices. 4 of the 13 programs are just harder to get into because more people pick them which are business, media, life sciences, and science technology. Each one of the programs are sponsored by a school at UMD and the Business one is by the smith school. After picking your top 3 you have to write an essay on why you would be a good applicant for the program you had as your first choice.

My stats were a 770M 610V 3.43 UW 4.0W with a big increase sophomore year getting a 3.14 UW in freshman year to a 3.56 sophomore and junior years. I was active in music and clubs but I have taken college classes and have an internship at a nice business. My employers wrote me great recs which I sent with my second applicaton(the one specific to scholars)

Thanks, Cheapseats, for such a thorough explanation. Sounds like Smith'll be lucky to have you.
