<p>Can anyone tell me anything about the ranking or prestige of SB's business school/accounting major? How is the job placement? How does it match up to the other higher-tiered UCs?</p>

<p>I just got accepted into business econ as well. I know that its a good program and employers like to come and snatch students. As far as rankings, I am unsure as it isn't a strict business program.</p>
<p>Undergraduate programs are not ranked except in a few rare cases.</p>
<p>Just got in UCSB and UCSC for business econ also. How do you guys think both of there business programs compare?</p>
<p>If you are going to do Accounting, UCSB is better.
If you are going to do Management information systems, UCSC is better.</p>
<p>UCSC has a good blend of classes mixed with Business/econ and computer science. If you want to work it the IT field with a Business degree, go to UCSC; you will have a whole bunch of computer programming classes you can have fun with. Yes they do have an accounting emphasis like UCSB, but UCSB's is way better.</p>
<p>If you are damn sure you want to do accounting, come to UCSB. Recently there are some people from UCSB who are going into finance, money managing and joining IB firms as well. But those are the cream of the crop. You need to have a 3.75 or better from UCSB to get interviewed by IB firms. </p>
<p>In terms of ranking and prestige? It says somewhere that we rank 36th in econ. But that is just plain econ, not business/econ. There are no rankings for accounting programs. But I can tell you that if they do, UCSB will be up there in the top. </p>
<p>When I tell people that I go to UCSB 60% of the time they give me respect, 30% of the time they know I can handle my business, the other 10% think I party a lot (which I don't). </p>
<p>UCSB's Bus/econ program is relatively new compared to UCLA, so prestige wise it isn't equal to UCLA. It is creeping up though. </p>
<p>Besides, don't look for the prestige of particular programs. Look at the coursework that the program has to offer and see if you like it or not. Come talk to the professors and current students and get the feel of how things go here.</p>
<p>Is there a way to switch to the bus econ major now if you got into L&S with a different major already?</p>

<p>to get into the pre-major, just file a form when you're a student. For that matter, incoming frosh who put down "bus econ" are also placed into the pre-major, and won't be accepted into the major until they finish the prereqs.</p>
<p>Yea you can switch. You need to finish 2 calculus courses, 2 accounting courses, 2 econ courses and a stats course with a certain minimum GPA. Thats the only barrier to entry.</p>
