Business Majors Looked Down Upon??

nono. Near UPenn. I'm closer to VA than to CMU, and Penn State is in the middle o nowhere :P

pitt? (10char)

CMU is in pittsburgh ;)

ok, give up. let me have it

There are two other schools near UPenn, this isnt hard. One of them is ranked in business (not the one), the other isnt (ding ding!). Just look at fourth tier schools.

temple (10char)

Must be Drexel or LaSalle

It was Temple. Good job mr W&M :P

Oh and edit: LeBow (Drexel's B-School) is ranked MUCH higher than Temples and is on the top 200 or w/e (i think Drexel is 150). Temple has a much better B-School.

jPOD, your dad is over 30 years old right? I think he is. The difference between going to a top 50 school and a top 200 school wasn't that big decades ago. But it is bigger now. There are soo many more brilliant kids in U.S., and soo many of them are beginning to emphsize on education, the competition is FIERCE. BTW, It's not the education I don't trust, it's the peers you have. I had bad peers in HS, since it was a public high school. All my presentations would be soo much better had those peers not been slackers. Going to a top school gives you more chance to succeed. Sure you can succeed in any school, but why not make your life easier? ;)

i don't even go to McIntire. But my school's reputation helped me get an internship in NYC (no family connection involved), as a rising second year. So I think I should be able to find a job when I graduate. :) As for you, I don't know. Best of luck.

Temple is a fine school, one of my step father's best friends went there. He's got a great job.

My dad's a 'few' years over 30 :P
You didnt go to UVA? Whats the University? dont tell me Miami....XD

Me? Hopefully i'll be going to Boston University for marketing :)

I go to UVa, I'm not in McIntire yet. I will be applying for it after the next semester. McIntire is for 3rd years and 4th years only. BU is good, one of my friends goes there for quantitative economics, he's ambitious.

ook. I never really looked into UVA even though i visited it when I was in 8th grade. I have no chance of getting in even though I LOVE the school. Consider yourself lucky. Helluva school. I'm sure i'll be there in a few years to visit since my brother's going to be looking at UVA and UPenn (soph. in hs). Good to know it's junior and senior year.

I'm sure your friend loves BU. It's a great school.

visited UVA in 8th grade? is it because u started to think about colleges early or is it because you had nothing else to do after vising Monticello? ;)

I went on a teen tour, and we visited and stayed at a few colleges during the trip. We visited UVA and Harvard, but didnt stay at either. And no, I didnt start thinking about colleges then. I'm not like the new atypical student. I started looking at colleges at the end of last year (11th).

I see that most people think that undergrad in something nonmajor +MBA will undoubtably beat someone who does something in business as an undergrad....however i really don't see this logic. Why not go to wharton or ross as an undergrad nad get a job straight out of undergrad....and then get the MBA later..wouldn't that be the most realistic and most practical route to take?

not everyone has that option. I did poorly in high school for example, so would i have a choice to do that...absolutely not. Everyone takes different paths. Right now i have the grades to possibly go to ucla next year, or wisconsin etc, but i am taking different path due to money. Long Beach will be my future school. Everyone is different, hence the different paths. There is no practical route, people do change their minds when it comes to career choices and this is a plus in the business environment.

whoa whoa, if you did poorly in high school, how could you have a shot at wisonsin or ucla, those 2 schools aren't exactly the easiest schools to get into...... your high school must be soo tough that your poor grades must mean 3.5+ gpa 1300+ sat I and top 15% rank LOL. but serious, i'd like to know what your definition of poorly is :) cuz getting into ucla or wisonsin means you did pretty good or AT LEAST above average

besides ur instate for ucla cuz you said you might be goin to long beach so wouldnt you have instate tuition and possibly reasonable financial aid? i got a pretty good financial aid package from them (im instate) actually a pretty gud one for my efc so if you think you can't afford it, that might mean your parents probaly make x<60000 so you will have a lower efc which might mean ucla might give you a pretty good financial aid package, one that makes ucla worth goin to.

in my experiences, people have looked down on me after hearing that i am majoring in business.. haha. they either think i'm a slacker or i'm greedy. whatever -_-

when i tell people that i'm a business major they usually get this look on their face that has hints of "you're a greedy bastard", which is only partially true :)
