I know I want to go into business, but what do you guys think is the best major in the field? I heard accounting is hard and very boring, I heard marketing is the easiest one but the job growth in the field doesn't look too good...

I am thinking about majoring in finance.
Is anybody else majoring in this? If so, can you guys give me an overview on what it's about, what I'd be learning? Also, how hard is it?
Hard as organic chemistry or almost at that level?
Or easy as art major or almost at that level?

I'm an A-B student in high school, taking lots of AP classes, so I am a hard working student. However, I would like a major that I won't dread & won't be bored with, but I do want a challenge, but maybe not as big of a challenge like organic chemistry.

Any advice/comments would be great.
Thank you!

Do some basic internet searches to learn what finance, accounting, etc are first and then we can talk about more specifics regarding the majors. You have to have some basis of understanding before anyone is going to want to help you.

I do have the basic understanding of what finance is about, but I’m not in any classes in college right now, that’s why I’m asking what different classes will be focused on, and what I’ll be looking forward to.

If you want to go into business you pretty much have to take intro classes to most major business fields anyways. I would use this time to talk with people in the field, do some research and of course learn the basics. Then you can make a more informed decision.

“Difficulty” is pretty subjective. Finance and accounting are difficult (in general), but definitely doable. Finance is much more math oriented. Accounting is the basis for business–understanding the flow of monies through a company. The application of both of these can be endless. Accounting classes are probably more boring than finance classes, but I think accounting classes are probably more useful. You will never meet a businessman that says, “I took too many accounting classes.”

You do not have to declare a major until mid sophomore or your junior year. You can always be “finance” or “business” and if you do not like the courses, path, you can switch over. Business in general is very lenient. You can graduate in 4-4.5 years even if you decide to switch majors half way in.

Finance is a breeze. Business degrees are a piece of cake. I’m not sure what sort of jobs you could land with these unless you’re in Ivy league schools. Accounting is a safe bet and pretty much encompasses everything. People in Finance are basically trying to get into I-Banking (or some other high Ivy League job) or previous Accounting major failures
