What are my chances of being accepted as a junior transfer to San Diego State for Fall 2017?
-Major: Business Marketing
-GPA: 3.02 (should be slightly higher by end of fall semester)
-All business pre-recs and GEs finished by end of Spring '17
-LOCAL transfer, all units completed at Grossmont College.
-Have one W in a business pre-rec (will be finished by end of spring)
Chances?
OR- would it be smarter to apply as an Economics major, and if accepted, switch to business marketing after a semester?
–can you only switch without an ADT?
Also, what are my appeal chances if i get denied?— (voluntarily gave up merit scholarships from east coast universities to move to San Diego, living independently for duration of college, recommended and hired as paid Title-five Peer Mentor by grossmont college to mentor students at grossmont, mother and grandmother attended SDSU, I attended a strong, competitive high-school (#68 in CA high schools by US News), ACT superscore: 25 (29 english, 26 math)
Hi @bman00
I don’t know if I can answer all your questions but I can tell you from my own experience, Marketing and Finance are the most popular Business emphasis at SDSU. I’m a current SDSU student who transferred from Mesa last Fall with a 3.5 into their Business Admin - Integrated Marketing Communication program.
A 3.02 in all honesty is not too strong, SDSU is extremely competitive. With that said!..I learned a few things through being denied to SDSU just a year prior. Which is when I reapplied and got in. I applied the second time WITHOUT my AS-T or ADT or whatever because I learned that applying with a associates degree puts you into a pool of students that typically have much higher GPAs (Students who tend to get their AST ADT’s tend to have higher GPAs). You are then ranked and admitted based on that.
So apply WITHOUT your ADT and pick whatever major you like best! And if you don’t get in…FILE AND WRITE A APPEAL LETTER!! You can write a letter and claim whatever reasons you think you your application should be reevaluated! The admissions office at Grossmont would be happy to help I’m sure! I know so many students that had similar GPAs as you and thats exactly how they got in. There are a lot of students that apply to SDSU and use it as their backup…when they decide they’d rather go to like Berkley or wherever it opens up spaces for the appeal students.
