Anyone have any experience with the new business minor at Vandy? Or, even better, been to any sort of information session at the school where the minor was talked in depth? Trying to understand how Vandy views the ability of graduates from this program in terms of competitiveness for jobs vs. more traditional undergraduate business programs. I have an MBA from Vandy but I am leery to sending my daughter there undergrad, as she wants business.
I’ve completed the old version of the business minor, and I think Vandy’s classes do a good job of balancing traditional liberal arts and more professional courses. In hindsight, I’m happy I didn’t have the option of majoring in business because I am already so focussed on business. Vandy’s liberal arts curriculum did a great job of helping me gain skills and perspectives I wouldn’t have gained from my business classes. Here’s more info about it:

Vandy students have no problem landing great jobs at all the major finance and consulting firms (except BCG which doesn’t recruit on campus). The only problem I have with Vandy is how unhelpful its career center is. I had to put in a lot of work to prepare for the recruiting process by reaching out to other students and doing my own research/interview practice, and I know for a fact that Vandy’s peer schools have a much better equipped career center. Other students and alumni share my views, and we’ve had to find resources elsewhere, such as student-run organizations and business fraternities. It’s ridiculous that our career center does not have case interview live practice, and it makes resources for case prep available in a very convoluted way (for getting access to Management Consulted, you need to email them separately!). I also think that the career center needs to do a better job of getting BCG and even PwC to campus. Ok, rant over! Our career center is making changes, but I didn’t find it as helpful as I wanted it to be.
