I’ll be going to cal poly majoring in either biology or biochem and I was hoping to get a minor in business. I have heard that it’s difficult for business majors to get the classes they need making me wonder if it would even be possible for me to get the classes for the minor. Is it worth trying to get into the classes or would I be better off pursuing a different minor?

Business is a great minor and would be a valuable addition to almost any major. However, I do recommend you look at the catalog and see exactly how many classes are entailed in the minor. It requires more units and classes than most minors and requires you to take 16 units of business courses before you can even apply to get into the minor. Also, you are right it is very difficult to get into the courses. It took me my entire freshman year to get into those core 16 units of pre-requisites (they are the same ones required to change your major to business) but with a gpa of 3.3 I made it into the program and it was definitely worth it. It won’t be easy but it will pay off in the end.

Thank you eortega! I was beginning to give up hope that anyone would answer. Your reply is very helpful and I will start trying to get the classes as soon as I can. I was a bit iffy before but I’m going to really aim for the minor now. :)
