Hi everyone! I am a current student who has been debating between a double major or major/minor my entire freshman year. I need to make a choice because my classes for next semester are dependent on the major. Currently, I am a Business and Apparel Merchandising double major. I enjoy both majors, but double majoring would require me to stay for 5 years and would fill most summers with summer classes, which is a lot of money and time. My other option is to drop one major to a minor. I cannot chose between the two! I see myself working in a large retail company doing the merchandising, buying, or a different business/merchandising-like related career. My degree options are:
A double-major in business and apparel merchandising.
-> expensive, not sure if I want to put the time and stress into it, BUT would get to equally study what I am interested in
An apparel merchandising major and business minor (maybe certificate in entrepreneurship)
-> really enjoy apparel merchandising, but am afraid I am limiting my options because I don’t have a stronger business background if I wanted to change career fields eventually
A business management major and apparel merchandising minor with a certificate in marketing and entrepreneurship
-> not sure what I would do with a management major, but I don’t really like accounting or finance and marketing is not of much interest to me either. I think this option sounds very well-rounded, but I want to go into merchandising/buying and am afraid I wouldn’t have enough education in apparel merchandising with a minor
Sorry if this is long and confusing! I came into spring semester thinking I was going to drop my business major, but I just received a scholarship from the business school, which helps my family and I pay for school, so I feel like I need to keep my business major. If anyone has any industry experience in the business or fashion world and has advice on what majors look good - please let me know!
