business or engineering

im not sure if I want to go into engineering or business, would it pay off to go into a business of engineering program, or whatever they're called? If so what colleges have a good program. Im looking for selective to highly selective colleges.

A BS in engineering and then an MBA is a good path. Best engineering schools are MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, UIUC, GaTech, UMich, CMU, Purdue, and Cornell.

im applying to cmu and cornell, isnt umich scandal ridden?

what kind of scandals?

Celebrian, Matt is refering to Michigan's AA policies.

Matt, there was nothing wrong with Michigan's AA policy, and that's coming from somebody who does not necessarily value AA that much. Michigan had two legal battles and won one of the two. But there was no "scandal" whatsoever.

Given your scores (1500+ on your SAT and 3.9 unweighed GPA), I would apply to top universities only.

If you are interested in Engineering, I would apply to the following schools, in order of engineering excellence:

MIT
Stanford
CalTech
Cal-Berkeley
Michigan-Ann Arbor
Cornell
Princeton

If you are interested in Business, I would apply to the following schools, in order of Business excellence:

Penn (Wharton)
Michigan-Ann Arbor (Ross)
MIT (Sloan)
Cal-Berkeley (Haas)
NYU (Stern)

Definitely apply to MIT and Stanford. I would also apply to Harvard and Princeton. Other than those, I would apply to Cal, Michigan and Cornell.

Good luck.

Why don't you just do both? Engineering can be a lot of work, but business should not be that hard. You can probably get the entire program done in less than 5 years. And I’m sure you won't have a problem finding a job with a dual major (especially in business and engineering).

why does everyone think i can get into ivies lol? I go to a really bad public school, and im only ranked like 11 out of 700, and my writing score is bad, and i have almost no distinctions even at the state level, nor have i played any sports or insturments ina long time.

Mattistotle, If you get into CMU, go to the CMU career center and find out what CMU business vs. Engineering grads earn. Also, find out more about the work, which is very different between the two, and see what you would enjoy doing more. IF you like it better, you will probably do better in that major.

whats the difference between the work?

in my opinion the best path would be undergraduate engineering plus MBA.
