Business Program

Any feedback on the School of Management? DS is looking for a small to medium size school, for accounting/finance. Values getting to know professors. Strong internship opportunities? Good recruiting record for graduates?

It is a solid, quality program. They are in the process of trying to get AACSB accreditation. AACSB is the top accreditation for business schools. It is not easy to get, is very costly and schools must meet very strict quality standards. Only about 25-30% of the business schools in the US have it. Even trying to get it makes a business program much better. I know this because I work at a college that just got it, after more than a decade of trying.

Bucknell did not get it before for various reasons probably. I can not speak for Bucknell but can speak from my own school’s experience. Politics, lack of support and resistance for various reasons such as expense, work load, power struggle, etc. The usual stuff.

I think that Bucknell’s alumni in the business world speaks volumes to potential students in the School of Management-not an easy school to get into for the high school candidate and I think you will have show a very strong academic profile to enter directly as a high school senior. My friends who were management/business/finance/accounting/marketing majors felt the school was excellent and the placement for internships was top of the line with so many grads in the business field paving the way–and job recruitment from the school is superior. Many top companies make Bucknell a stop for recruitment–it’s no wonder that the NYC Alumni Chapter is among the largest in the country as many Bucknellians wind up in New York working for major corporations…just my bias as a 2011 (Biology major) graduate-I’m in med school now, but my friends who were in the School of Management believed they received a great education. The School of Management was just formed a few years ago–you will see the school as a rising star under President Bravman’s vision, commitment, and leadership.

^Agree completely with Aberdeen.
Cookie16, if your DS decides to apply to Bucknell’s business program he should apply specifically to the School of Management as an incoming freshman…it is almost impossible to transfer into the management program once you are a sophomore or junior. Also applying ED2 should significantly improve his chances. Good luck!

Absolutely. He is a junior now and will be applying directly to business schools next fall. Thank you all for the great info. We look forward to visiting Bucknell soon.
