Business Rankings Legit?

How should a school like McIntire (UVA) be viewed in terms of job placement (for iBanking, hedge funds etc.)/B-School placement considering the difference in rankings? Coming out of McIntire, can I expect to be in the same league as MIT & Wharton Business schools students? What about schools without business programs who are still highly valued (e.g. UChicago, Duke)? Thanks for your imput.

UVA is a great school/program. Sometimes people put too much weight into "ranks" like these.

I like the first link better than the second, though.

McIntire has a pretty extensive placement report online. Why don't you judge for yourself?

Using google you should also be able to find older placement reports if you desire.

Right, but would I be at a disadvantage at UVa in comparsion to Wharton/MIT/HYSP/Duke etc. or am I going to be on the same playing field (assuming that everything else, GPA, extracurreculars etc. is the same)...UVa is an incredible program, no doubt about that, but I'm not sure what ranking to trust when one says UVa is barely top ten and the other says we're number 2.

lakersfan4life--are the us news rankings from 2007 or 2006? just wondering since i dont think it says on the pdf, thanks

The rankings are from 2006.

UVa is a great program. Once you get into a good school, it's up to you to take initiative to try to stand out among the other jobseekers.

So your saying coming out of McIntire is not going to inhibit me in any way when down the road I'm trying to get into the top iBanking firms (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan etc.)?

bump.bump.bump.

UVa is actually quite well represented in many banks, including Lazard.

you're obviously not going to have as many opportunities compared to wharton grads. that's just a given.

Doing well at McIntire will get u an IB offer. Goldman might be kinda tough though..

McIntire is a great choice, especially in-state.

The ranking is published in Sept 2006 but it is a 2007 ranking.
