Business School Admission Decisions Out Today

Email notifications were sent out around noon today.

Our D2 got in so the long wait is finally over and she can enjoy the rest of her summer working 2 part time jobs.

Good luck to all those who applied.

Congrats to her. Hopefully jobs will be waitng when she graduates.

Child who just finished freshman year received rejection notice from Business Schoool on Monday. 3.7+ overall GPA, 3.7+ in core Business School pre-requisite courses. Also had very good complexity in non-core courses. Had a 4.0 average last semester, again with good complexity in courses.

Am wondering the following:

1) Does anyone have a good macro picture of what the Business School admission process looked like this year (i.e. # of admits, avg. GPA, etc.)? According to the notice, there were 1,200+ applications this year.

2) Is there any preference normally given for those who apply after sophomore year (vs. after freshman year)? I know that each student can apply only twice to the business school and was wondering if there is some tendency to get kids in who are on their last chance.

3) How heavily do other factors (essay, student resume, extracurricular business activities) play into the selection process?

4) Are there a reasonable number of appeal applications that are accepted by the Business School each year, or is that a longshot?

Thanks much for your replies, and good luck to you and yours!

Wow - I am surprised since the GPA/Core Courses are above the average of around 3.5.

The admission statistics will be eventually be available on the business school website.

I think your child should immediately call/contact the business school with questions. Try not to sound angry/upset but mature, asking what can be improved upon to make the application better for next year. The essays and extracurriculars are important. Did your child join Badger Business Buddies or Alpha Kappa Psi? Did your child attend the Business School Welcome Week last August?

(With my 1,000th Post I just became a Senior Member - makes me feel ‘old’)!

What if I apply and don’t get in?

It is important to know that you have two chances at admission. If denied the first time, it is wise to meet with your academic advisor to discuss a game plan for either a second application or a possible alternative major. You can also inquire with BBA Admissions to discuss your situation more specifically. Starting at SOAR the summer before your freshman year, the business advisors will discuss the importance of having and developing what we call a “parallel plan.” Understanding other majors on campus that may be a good fit is an important step to planning a parallel major. Your business advisor will work with you to make sure you are appropriately considering possible courses for a parallel plan while also prepping for admission to the Wisconsin BBA.

Thanks for the great replies. Much appreciated!

No, he didn’t join those organizatoins or attend those activities. He started out the year as Undecided, and, after completeing the core courses, eventually evolved to a desire to pursue business. I’m sure that he’ll be more involved with those next year. He has completed the core courses, so I guess the good part is that at least the core GPA, which is good, won’t change prior to the next application cycle.

Thanks for passing on the excellent data!

I like this organization because it is not time consuming (like Alpha Kappa Psi) and each pre-business student is assigned a one-on-one mentor. Meeting topics include choosing classes and applying to the business school.

Great information. Thank you!!!

When I posted the required courses, I meant to also say that your child can work on taking them to stay on track even though currently not admitted to the business school. For example, your child could enroll in Accounting 100 for this fall, and Econ 102.

Got it. Thanks!

604 admits from 1216 applications. Pre-business & cumulative GPAs trending up from past years stats.
