How difficult is it to get into the business school as a sophomore? I can't tell from the info I've seen on the Wisconsin website what it would take to get into the UW business school after a year. If I didn't get into the business school I'd need to transfer, which I would prefer not to do. Are there any guidelines? Is there a customary percentage or number of students who are accepted? I know I can get a direct admission to Kelley at Indiana, and I'm wondering if it's better to go with a sure thing. If I knew what the bogey was at UW, I might be willing to take the risk.

The B school has done a massive expansion, so getting in is easier than it used to be. Two years ago come spring, the admission rate was 80%. Maybe someone else knows what it was last year. The B school also takes a few applicants as freshmen, now.

How difficult is it to get in as an upper division transfer?

Somewhere in the 3.3-3.4 gpa range will usually get you in. Also some kind of outside activity counts. Here are the stats. Virtually all admissions are now sophs. About 2/3 get in.

So if I transfer in as a junior, would that greatly diminish my chances of admission?

Also, I read somewhere that starting next year, the B-school will only admit in the fall, so would that mean I’d have to wait a year before I can apply?

Transfers apply after one semester at UW. I have no data on transfer admissions odds. As UW overall takes lots of transfers into junior year they must have some way of handling it. I’d call the B school undergrad admissions people.
