As a potential incoming freshman to Gabelli I want to pick a college that will give me a job, not just a place to drink. We have family who've gone to Fordham and they are unemployed. My dad knows this and he wants the best for me. I've looked online and I've seem stats but I just would like some more proof to show him. I'm from Long Island (1 hour from the Bronx) so I know what NYC can offer and I just want to make sure Fordham can capitalize on that. As this rant ends, I would just like to thank any responders beforehand!

It is a total drag to be unemployed after college graduation…from Fordham or from Harvard or from anywhere. I won’t make any judgments or cast aspersions on anyone. BUT…

getting a job is not the schools job for you. The school is responsible to provide you the opportunity to excel academically (and Fordham has a myriad of ways to do that if you work hard), and to have a meaningful opportunity for internships and interviews. Fordham does that. Its up to each individual student to excel in school with a high GPA with courses that employers find helpful or provide a broad perspective with strong analytical skills. Its up to the student to dress well, interview well and when on internships to perform well.

Fordham’s top students in the Gabelli School and Fordham’s top students in Fordham College at Rose Hill ALL get internships and excellent jobs, or excellent placement in graduate school (MBA, MA or MS or PhD), law schools and medical schools. They have a very high number of Fulbright Scholars, a Cambridge Scholar, Oxford scholars, Boren Scholars, Goldwater scholars…on and on and on.

So the short answer is yes. But its up to YOU to perform and get it done.

I know people from Wharton who have been unemployed. Many people choose jobs that are high risk/high reward, like trading. Its up to you.
