I have been accepted into SUNY at Buffalo, SUNY at Albany, SUNY at Stony Brook, Hofstra, and Baruch, all for business. Which of these schools will offer me the best chance at job placement after graduation for finance and accounting (planning on double majoring). Baruch has offered me a full tuition 4 year scholarship but money is not an issue whatsoever. I want to have the best college experience but also attend a school where I am guaranteed a good job placement. Please help me make the decision

Go to Baruch, no questions asked. The only downside is that you cannot double major in finance and accounting, but you can major in finance while taking several accounting courses and vice versa. If you do well, you can definitely get placed in a big 4 accounting firm. Many Baruch students have interned/received full-time offers from those firms. If you want to go on the finance route, Baruch is also great for that. Traditionally, bulge bracket firms would recruit at Baruch for mid/back office positions, but that is changing. This year, more and more Baruch students than ever before have received full time and internship offers in front office positions at bulge bracket firms. Baruch’s reputation in finance is getting better and better and its reputation in accounting was also good. Plus, with the tuition hike, it is still merely $6,000 a year! Awesome clubs/organizations, great people, and challenging courses.

As someone who has gone through the recruiting process and was able to secure a front office internship at a bulge bracket, I can tell you right now that the recruiting process at Baruch is so much more superior that at any of those schools. When I went to superdays, I never met anyone from Albany, Stony Brook, Hofstra, or Buffalo. The only SUNY school represented at superdays was Bing.

I am on the waiting list for Fordham University, if I were to get in would you say it would be a good option as well? My only concern with Baruch is that it is basically a commuter school, and coming from a NYC high school I don’t want to go through another four years of commuting everyday. Northeastern was my main choice, but they accepted me into the NUin program, where I would have to begin my first semester of college in a foreign country and transition back to Boston in my second semester.

you’re right about Baruch being a commuter school. We have dorms, but they are way too far away and you’re better off commuting from home rather than paying that price. However, Baruch does a very strong campus life, great clubs, and diverse events. Personally, I commute, but I am very active on campus and will graduate from Baruch with fond memories of my college experience. It’s definitely possible to have a good college experience even at a commuter school.

Sure, Baruch doesn’t really have dorms, but you only pay $6,000/yr. I would chose Fordham and Baruch over Northeastern. If you want a good job, you should be worried about LOCATION, unless you are planning to attend an ivy. Fordham and Baruch will give you a better shot at landing a good job at a reputable firm. Fordham costs a lot more money than Baruch for a similar education, so I would honestly chose Baruch. I do not know if you’re getting scholarships for these schools, but if you are planning to go into massive debt for a bachelors degree, then you should reconsider.
