I'm a junior, probably looking into business. My family doesn't have that much money, but i don't think we're poor enough for need-based scholarships and stuff, so im looking for well respected business schools that offer good merit-based scholarships.

i live in illinois, so UIUC is high up on my list because its a good school and is very affordable in-state. however, it is getting harder and harder to get into for in-staters for some reason (kids with 31 ACTs at my school are getting deferred EA). So i want to find a business school that is ranked well where i can get a pretty good amount of money so that im paying right around what UIUC in-state tuition would be, or a little more.

Stats:
W GPA: 4.4-4.5 (if all goes well)
UW GPA: 3.7-3.8 (if all goes well)
ACT: 31, hopefully by the end of it
ECs: 4 years of HS volleyball (captain), 4 years of club volleyball, 3 years on newspaper (editor in chief senior year, likely), 3 year member of spanish national honors society (on board junior year), some other random little stuff too. ill try to do some volunteer stuff and get a job over the summer to beef things up.

people have suggested Indiana's Kelley School of Business to me, they award something like $9000 to anyone coming in with a 30+ gpa and a 3.8+ UW GPA. that sounds awesome, and I'm fairly sure I could get it, but i need to broaden my options. im not concerned about location right now.

I would say NYU Stern, but NYU has really crappy financial aid.

yeah that's definitely a top choice of mine academically, just not sure i could afford it, not to mention affording general NY city life.

Well you definitely have a good shot at getting in, but I think the Princeton Review rated NYU's fin. aid as the #1 most disappointing, so I'd be wary.

any others? hopefully with good financial aid and/or merit-based scholarships?

Here's a businessweek ranking of the top business programs.

Undergrad - BSchools

I don't know what you define as "well respected" in reference to your monetary needs...most of the top schools offer no merit-based need, and generally the ones that have merit-based give the scholarships to like, 5 kids, at the top of the food chain. If you do qualify for financial aid, a lot of top schools these days basically pay for you to come.

If this is a frame of reference, I got an offer for 16 grand from Drexel University, merit based...in the Philly area it's a pretty well respected school, and according to U.S. News, it is #6 in the Up-and-coming colleges category.

Villanova is actually ranked as a top business school, and with a 31 on the ACT, you'd qualify for the Villanova Scholarship. They also offer a much more competitive Presidential Scholarship, which is full tuition. I guess my only warning with Villanova is that it's VERY Catholic...something like 85% of the student body is CATHOLIC (not including other Christian denominations). Sunday Night Mass is like the hot social event, something like 75% of the students go. When I visited it definitely seemed like Vanillanova, since there's hardly any diversity.

Scholarships and Grants

Hope that helps!

Notre Dame has a pretty good one, so does USC. I'd love to go to Stern(if I can get in, of course) but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford it. Michigan has a pretty good one too.

It also depends on what you want to major in, what your want to do as a career. Or I'm guessing you might want to get an MBA after undergrad?

Oh, you also have a good shot at BC, which has a well-respected business program, and they meet 100% of demonstrated need.

Thank you to all who have replied or PMed me. simpson, i feel like BC would be a stretch for me, but ill certainly put it on my reach list. hawaiiboy, im not sure yet what my career plans are but if i can get into an "overall" good business program and figure out my focus later (econ, accounting, administration, etc) then id be a happy fellow.

Michigan seems like a well-rounded school, there in the top 5 for a few categories in USNWR rankings for individualized majors/fields. But OOS tuition sucks.

Jax, the middle 50% for BC for the ACTs is 28 - 32. It's definitely more probably than a reach.
