Business Schools in Big Cities

I just got rejected as a sophomore transfer to NYU Stern. I am a freshman at the University of Miami with a GPA of 3.7, good EC's and what I thought were very decent essays. But I guess it was not meant to be.

Since I did not apply to any other place, I am looking for universities to transfer to in big urban environments for junior year.

Schools I had in mind were BU, NYU and Northeastern. I'm looking for similar schools, with a diverse student body, a liberal atmosphere (which is why I never looked at Fordham, even though I would have loved to be in NYC) and obviously good academics.

I know BU offers spring transfers, but what are some other universities of similar characteristics. I have a preference for spring transfers, but don't mind either way.

I think BU is a good bet. Showing interest helps, so maybe write to the director of SMG (School of Management) and visit if you can.

Does GWU offer a business program? They’d certainly be a good option to consider if they do.

BU sucks. NEU sucks. Apply to: stern, ross, mcintire, wharton, sloan, columbia, harvard, yale, princeton, and maybe cornell.

Why are you degrading yourself? BU and NEU are safety schools, bro.

Try NYU again next year. Stern is a very tough school to get into. I do not think that transferring to NEU or Boston is worth it. From an academic standpoint, Miami has better academics than both schools. Consider Emory (Atlanta is pretty urban), Carnegie Mellon (Tepper is top), UT Austin, and USC

its true…neu sucks…im transferring from there now. dont go there.

You can also try Georgetown and UMD if you’re up for going to a big school near DC.

USC, Georgetown, GW, Maryland, SMU

What about the University of Minnesota Twin Cities? It’s urban (quite big), and its business school is not too shabby.

Another good big city college would be North Philly’s Temple University.

Wharton. 10char

That’s a good one, Coldplay2015. The best one, in fact.

USC 10char

university of southern california…duh

Hey giant I am in the exact same boat. The deadline has passed for most of the schools suggested and some of the business schools do not accept spring transfers. I think we can probably still apply to UMD now. Good luck!

Oh, I don’t think that Tepper takes transfer students.

Alternatively, wait til’ next year, because practically everyone loves NYU if they’re in for big business. You may also want to consider Wharton, too.

Goizueta Business School of Emory is ranked #3 by Businessweek and is in Atlanta, the 9th largest metropolitan area in the country.

I’m confused as to how this wasn’t even mentioned.

Getting into Wharton as a transfer is next to impossible. Getting shot down as a transfer student has taught me to be realistic. Be realistic about applying to schools you can get into.

I want to go to school that is in a city center. NYU and, to a certain extent, BU, are the only ones that combine good academics with the location that I desire.

My situation is as follows - I am studying abroad at NYU in London next semester, and I am debating to whether apply to BU as a January transfer, or waiting it out, doing another semester at my current university and reapplying to NYU. I absolutely hate it at my current university. I cannot stand it here at all, and I don’t know whether I’m up to spending another semester here. But NYU has always been my dream and I do not want to give up on it so easily.

@thestorm - You’re trying to transfer from Stern? Why?

@giantmidget - Must you be in Boston or NY? Emory is a very good school and their deadline is June 1st so you still have time to apply. If you can get into Emory and eventually Gozuieta, that’s a no-brainer. Stern is very hard to transfer into and BU doesn’t compare to Emory.
