Hi, I got accepted from both Kelley and Rutgers (New Brunswick) business schools, and waiting for the response from PSU Smeal. These are my zone schools, but I can’t decide between them. I really like IUB for the prestige of their program. However, Rutgers is ranked better (70 vs. 76) and PSU is really prestigious as well (48). I’m majoring in Finance.
What do you guys advise me? Which one is the best among these three business schools?
Rutgers is not in a class with PSU or Indiana in my opinion. I am a PSU alum (though not in business) and I would choose between Smeal and Kelley based on cost. My daughter received $10,000 OOS merit aid from IU and will most likely get something from Kelley and/or the Honors College. PSU gave squat. PSU is not worth $40,000 more over 4 years in my opinion (unless there are other considerations).
Are you saying Kelley is ranked 76 or IU in general is 76? Every ranking I have ever seen has put Kelley in at least the top 20, usually the top 10 business schools.
I know that I look too concerned about the ranking, but this is the only metric I can use to choose among colleges. I am an international student, and before coming to U.S. I only knew the Ivy League schools.
@Luigi0928 Rutgers overall is not a bad school. I grew up in NJ and went to Penn State so I am somewhat familiar with both. Rutgers “business school” isn’t comparable to the other two. Penn State and Indiana will also have more international name recognition.
my kid has got an admit into iupui - kelly indianapolis campus and psu-smeal. which is a better choice? i believe one can move to bloomington after 1 year with some good gpa. wud it be worthwhile to go to iupui. ? [international student].
@VKR I see you have posted similar questions on different threads and haven’t gotten much response. I think the thing that makes it difficult to respond to your situation is the fact that your son is an international student. We just don’t know how to respond to your situation. Lots of variables can drive a different response from the posters on this site.
Questions for you and your son:
After getting his degree, does he plan on returning to your country or does he plan on staying in the states?
If he plans on returning to your country, would the business community in your country be more impressed by a degree from Penn State, IU Bloomington, IUPUI, or does it even matter?
If he plans on staying in the states, does he have a plan on what part of the country he wants to get a job?
