Business schools: u of sc vs Texas A&M & u of Ark Walton which is better?

My D has been accepted into Mays st TAMU, IBA Moore & Walton she is having a tough time deciding where to go financially very close right now but TAMU has not informed about scholarships yet. Any advice?

My advice is to forget rankings, visit the campuses and see which one she’s happiest at. If she’s happy, she’ll excel, if not, then she won’t. For this reason, my focus is on things like the weather, the food, and how friendly and happy the faculty, students, and town are :-). With the exception of a few fields, I’m not convinced that where you get a degree has a great deal of impact on future job opportunities. The things she does while getting a degree are much more important. I have many examples of students going to sub-par schools, where they were given more opportunities, for instance, working with professors on research. They have done very well. I also have examples of students going to top schools who didn’t have these opportunities and haven’t done as well. If she likes them all, pick the one that’s easiest to visit.

Congratulations! She can probably do well at any of the three. I am not familiar with Arkansas’s business school, but I Texas A&M has a great reputation. The #1 ranked international business program at USC is structured in a way that guarantees a great resume (double major, language minor, study abroad), so she would be well positioned at graduation. The big difference, regardless of what she studies, will be her job prospects. Recruiters will typically target schools in their area knowing that the odds of success are much better. This means that at Texas A&M she would likely work in Dallas, Houston, or Austin, at South Carolina she would be recruited to Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington DC, or New York, and at Arkansas maybe Dallas, Houston, or Memphis? Of course this is not all encompassing- she may successfully get a job outside of the region- but it serves as a great guideline.

The other way to broaden her experience and reach is through internships. My son is a freshman with conditional acceptance in the IB program (via Honors). He will be doing an internship in Boston this summer which will give him exposure to the job market at home upon graduation. To reiterate what Gora14 said, find her best fit and if she is happy, she will do well. Best of luck.
