Hey everyone! I'm applying to Umich and I have a few questions. I noticed that to apply for the Ross school of business, you have to first apply for one semester of something (anything) and then transfer over. What if you don't complete the transfer? Are you going to be stuck in general studies or something?

Also, on the apps, where should I indicate that this is my course of action?

And I know this is a dumb question, but is general studies and LSA the same thing? And is general studies the same as undecided?

Thanks people~

are you a hs senior applying as a freshman? if so,
you would apply to LSA and choose the pre-admit option for business.

yea im gonna be a hs senior in like a week. but does choosing pre-admit option guarantee you for business even if you get accepted into LSA?

No, it doesn't. You have to be accepted into both. Just because you get accepted into LSA doesn't mean you'll be accepted into the busimess school... (The b-school accepts very few seniors each year.) However, if you don't get accepted into the business school, there are many related majors from which you can choose through LSA (such as econ), or you could try applying again to b-school as a sophomore. However, the acceptance would still not be guaranteed even then.

alrite thanks for the input guys. its kinda risky but I think I'm gonna go for it and if I get accepted, I'll work my butt off hehe~

I think its worth the risk if you don't get into the preadmits to apply sophomore yr, if you know you can put in the effort to keep up your grades and be inolvolved. =) Good luck!

good luck and apply early!

Well you actually apply during freshman year to start the program in your sophomore year, just to clear things up. It's a 3-year program now.

I don't know too much about general studies. I think it's a program within the LSA. I heard of organizational studies, though. Maybe that's what you're thinking of? I think you have to apply to that as well.

The people who don't get in almost always do econ. Some do poli sci.

yeah, apply for sophomore year is what i meant.

Organizational studies is a pretty tough program to get into as well, from what I've heard.

Is the pre-admission for the b-school independent of regular decision?

I mean, is there any disadvantage in applying to the b-school as a freshman?

Also, can you still be enrolled in the honors program at Umich if you also apply to Ross as a pre-admit

Yes, it is independent.

There is no disadvantage to applying to the B-School as a pre-admit.
