business transfer

I'm currently a sophomore attending the Smith school of business at UMD and I want to transfer to a school with a better business program with better recruiters. I currently have a 3.2 GPA, but hope to bring it up to at least a 3.5. How hard is it to get into top public programs such as Haas, Ross, McIntire, etc? Also how hard hard is it to transfer into programs such as Stern, Marshall, and Wharton? Any suggested schools will be helpful. I'm planning on double majoring in finance and accounting.

Haas is next to impossible for OOS. Wharton is the top undergrad bus program in the nation so I imagine they are even more difficult. Stern and Marshall could be reachable if you raised your gpa. I am not sure about Ross or McIntire sorry. I think Ross is comparable to Haas though. Also for the private schools your high school grades matter so you may want to give those stats to get more responses.

Try OSU or UW madison

haha I don't think it's worth the effort to transfer if my choices are OSU or Wisconsin, they're pretty much in the same league as Maryland when it comes to business. thnx for the response though. My high school stats are:

3.83 weighted
ranked HS
mostly honors and AP courses
1310 SAT
770 JAP 660 Math IIC 600 Writing SATII
Japanese

What college GPA should I aim for to get into Stern or Marshall?

I actually heard that if you get a 3.3 you're fine for Marshall from a USC rep who visited my school. I talked to him and he said "they won't admit you because you haven't taken Calculus in high school, go to a CC, take calc, get a 3.3, and you'll be admitted". I know some won't believe me, but that's what he said. I was one of the 4 students who talked to him after the meeting, which in itself had about 30 kids, so he knew I was interested, and wanted to be real with me.

aim for 3.5+
and i think you will have a good chance =)

good luck

more schools that you can consider:
Emory
Georgetown
Indiana Bloomington
CMelon
WuStl
UIUC
UNC-CH

yeah, a 3.2 will hurt you, to transfer to a top school, they usually tell you that you really need a 3.5+

Also, i have read on these boards that apparently Ross is very difficult to transfer in OOS, comparable to Haas.. like they accept 4 or 5 OOS transfers a year is what i read.

Isn't Ross a three year program now?

yes it is.

so what schools do you guys recommend for junior transfers

a 3.2 and even a 3.5 is not enough for stern. your sat scores aren't high enough to substitute for the gpa.

can someone please explain to me what oos is?

out of state

so what exactly is the cutoff for stern, if it's not a 3.5? 3.7? with what sat scores?

nevermind. found it. 3.6 is the unofficial cutoff.

they won't even look at people without a 3.6? That's a little stupid

Credits will be transferred over provided that we have a comparable course at NYU and you receive a "C" or higher. The most competitive applicants are taking predominantly the liberal arts, general education classes, in addition to the prerequisites that our website lists. The students that are offered admission are within the the A- to A range in college. The application process is also a holistic review of the high school transcript, any standardized test scores taken in high school, teacher letter of recommendation, and essay with the short answer questions.

It would be so nice to go to NYU Stern. The prestige, the city, the networking... I've read in a lot of posts that when your transferring for junior year they don't look at high school GPA much, is that true for NYU as well? Also, would it be an advantage for tranferring from a top 20 business school to say some mediocre state schools or CC?
