Business Undergrad Chances?

Hey, I originally posted this on the Babson board but I thought I would post it here as well... I'm interested in my chances for Babson College, but after reading this, I'd also like to know if anyone knows of any other great business undergrad schools I have a good chance of getting into.. Thanks!

Okay, to start, I remember my combined GPA from 9th and 10th was about a 3.4 UW... My junior year GPA was a 4.0, but I only took Spanish, Physics, and AP English.. Now I am about to start my senior year, taking all my classes at the local community college for dual enrollment, and I am also currently in English 4 (with an A).. I will be taking Pre-Calc and another social studies class, as well as a couple extracurriculars.. Here are my classes that were honors so far: Geometry, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, and AP Language and Comp.

My extracurricular activities included acting in the school plays in 9th and 10th grades, horse back riding, playing violin, and in 9th grade I ran a clothing drive for the two campuses of my school for foster children around my county. Junior year I was taking my classes online and I turned into a lump, so I want to be really active senior year in extracurriculars so that I can (hopefully) apply EA to Babson.. I'm going to get involved in riding, violin, and drama again this fall at the very least.

Last December I took the SATs and I got a 660 in reading, 660 math, and 650 in writing.. at the time I hadn't been enrolled in a math class so I am going to re-take the SATs soon and (I'm sure) do much better.. Ummm, just to sum in case people don't want to do the math themselves, that's a 1970 out of 2400 and a 1320 out of 1600 in the old scale..

I don't know, this doesn't seem like a very impressive application to me.. What do you think, could I get in EA to Babson? If not, please tell me EVERYTHING I could do to improve.. Thanks, all your advice is greatly appreciated!

Edited to add: Oh, this is really random, but I'm a girl.. Heh, hopefully you could tell that from my username.. Anyway, is that an advantage when applying to Babson? Does it have any effect at all, like being a minority?

What do you think of my chances for Babson?

Just bumping this thread.. can anyone else help?

Babson's average UW GPA is around 3.6 with a SAT (CR&M) of 1263, and about 630 W for a total of 1593.

Your UW GPA is approximately 3.54, you've only taken one AP course, and your SAT scores are (660CR, 660M, and 650W) for a total of 1970. Your SAT scores puts you at about the 80% level of those who got in, but your UW and W GPA puts you at about the 40% level of grades of those who got in.

As you said, you're a girl, and Babson's current ratio of male-to-female is 60/40, and I'm guessing they would prefer that it be closer to 50/50, so I'm guessing that will make a difference. Note, however, that Babson accepts only 37% of its applicants, so it is a pretty tough place to get in.

So presuming that you have at least some good ECs and that you are taking tough courses your senior year--which seems to be the case--I put your chances at around 60% for being accepted--an obvious "match".

Good luck.

Thanks so much for all that.. I really hope you're right! :) Do you think the fact I will be applying early decision will affect my chances at all?

Anyone else?

Get the math up, and yeah apply EA if you want to go there.

What do you mean by get the math up?

applying for business it really helps to have a math SAT over 700

Okay, that makes sense.. Just 40 points away, that shouldn't be too hard, right? I got the Kaplan 2400 SAT prep book, hopefully that should help... I think I'm going to take the SAT again this October.. Will that be soon enough for applying ED to Babson..? Their deadline is November 15th..

Maryland and PSU reaches but Illinois and Wisconsin matches? No way.

Elaborate before you just say that a school isn't a match for me, please..

I'm comparing scores. If you get into Illinois/Wisconsin OOS, you will get into Maryland/PSU.
