I believe (could be wrong) that 2 years undergrad business schools are the ones that start in your junior year (such as umich Ross). For a school like michigan, you will have to transfer in your junior year because you can't apply to it as a freshman. USC Marshall, a 4 year undergrad business school start in your first year.

why are there so many schools that are tied and what is the difference between a school that is ranked 3.0 vs 3.1 I'm guessing not much?

Also what is the fluctuation on a yearly basis for most schools?

Yeah, the ranking methodology isn't very scientific nor does it reveal much when so many schools get such similar scores. Here's the methodology of the undergrad business rankings straight off of the US News website:

"U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at undergraduate business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Participants were asked to rate the quality of all programs they are familiar with on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished). The rankings are based solely on this survey; 46 percent of those surveyed responded. We also asked for nominations of the best programs in specialty areas. Schools offering any courses in a specialty are eligible to be ranked in that specialty."

As you can see, it's not too hard for schools to potentially get very similar scores.

Truthfully, I think that college rankings should definitely not be released every single year. You can tell that publications are just trying to make a buck off of rankings if they're released every year. I say this because it takes much more than 1 year for a university to make significant changes and improvements. So fluctuations in rankings from year to year are kind of absurd because most universities haven't changed much within a year.

Exactly, you should read Princteon Reviews book "best 143 business schools". Like for example Umass's Business school is 70 somthing in that list, but its top ten on the Princenton reviews.

weird that LA isnt on there. what do they rank based on?

That's because there's no undergraduate business program at UCLA.

The Kidd, Michigan is now a three year Business program (student can now apply after their Freshman year) and next fall, the Ross school will be accepting students straight out of High School.

but.. is it easy to transfer from the junior year into umich's ross school of business ?? what percentage of the people who apply from umich actually get into the business school ?

i myself have got into umich's school of lit, science and arts and intend to transfer next year.. so a bit confused..

It is not a question of percentage, it is a question of individual worth. If you maintain a 3.5+ GPA (getting most As in core classes Econ I, II, Accounting, Calculus, Stats and English writing) while at Michigan and if you write good essays, you have a very good chance of getting into Ross. On the other hand, if you don't do that well, your chances aren't good at all.

yeah.. but how difficult/easy is it to maintain those grades at michigan?? i am an international student so i am not familiar with the GPA scoring system.. i am about an above average student with a predicted International Baccalaureate score of 35/42.

I hear it's hard 'cause eveyrone is trying to transfer into Ross. Everybody is kinda intense in those core classes and there are a lot of grade grubbing and cutthroat competiton.

Who cares, just go to stern, it's way better and we dont' allow loser CAS ppl to come in (unless they're really really qualified).

U of Chicago doesn't have a business program? I'm surprised.

Chicago has an economics major, which is as strong as almost any business program out there.

Chicago's Econ program is, in my opinion, the #1 Econ department in the World. Chicago also has a top 5 MBA program. However, like many top Business schools, Chicago does not offer undergraduate degrees in Business. But as Momfowildchild aptly points out, Chicago's undergraduate Econ program is as respected as any undergraduate Business program, including Wharton, Sloan, Ross, Haas and Stern.
