Business vs. Engineering

Okay heres the problem. I am attending a college next year, and I know that I will also be attending Grad school after. I know as well that I want to do a combination of Business with Engineering. My question is what is the best solution, Engineering undergrad with a business grad? or a business undergrad with engineering grad? What would employers prefer, and what looks better.

It is very difficult to do a business undergrad with engineering grad. The other way around is very common. But you have to like engineering in order to study engineering as an undergraduate.

If you want to do both, my recommendation is Econ/Comp sci undergrad. This will give you a strong base for grad or if you want to work right away, give you a pretty big advantage in the job market.

I second this ^

Industrial Engineering = engineering applied specifically toward business. It is the mesh of engineering and business.

Do industrial engineering (it’s like econ + engineering), maybe do a double major with econ for good measure

Engineering in undergrad opens up many doors for grad school

Doable and fairly common, though often with work experience in between.

Generally does not happen, since an undergraduate business major typically does not take anywhere near the amount of math, science, and engineering courses needed to go into graduate school in engineering.

As others have said, Industrial Engineering may be the kind of undergraduate major you are looking for.

guessing by your name (i.e. UVAAlltheway) and being in a similar situation myself earlier, I can say that the best way to proceed would be to go into Systems Engineering at UVA and do the Business minor along with it. This will effectively set you up to work in either the Engineering related companies or the financial services industry after you graduate. Systems Engineering has applications/concentrations in the program and one of those is Finance.
This degree will provide you with the best foundation for any future career/masters program that you are interested in.
