Hi everyone. I'm new to this site so I'm sorry if this post seems redundant to anyone. I've already perused through some of the old posts and didn't find the answers I needed. Any words of advice would be wonderful! ^^

I'm a junior in high school this year, and I'm thinking about going into business --not so much finance. (Studying economics, possibly getting MBA, etc....I'm still kinda confused) I was wondering if anyone could offer me insight into what one has to do in order to go into business. What should I major in? What are the best schools?

So far, I've been looking into:
Univ. of Chicago
Northwestern
Univ. Michigan
Wash. U. in St. Louis
Carnegie Mellon (I've heard Tepper is pretty good, is this true?)
Columbia
Possibly NYU???

Sorry this is rather long. Any insights would be wonderful! Thank you so much! =D x 1000000000!

choosing ur college list generally depends on your stats.. SAT scores.. pre-undergrad courses etc.
As far as these universities.. NYU Stern is great if you are interested in business.. not so much for economics..
Columbia is great for economics liberal arts but does not offer a business major..
Univ. michigan is good for michigan and great for business too.. the ross business school os highly selective and ranked between 1-3 in most business courses on US news..
Tepper is really good for business.. economics is acceptable.. but problem with carnegie is the social life.. it is really bad there..

Personally, i am interested in eco + business too.. and i have presentl chosen univ. of michigan.. waiting for my carnegie decision but dont think i would go there becoz the social life is really bad and the educational experience and sports etc. is horrible..

one Q that i would like answered is that how mich more prestugious is a business major as compared to an economics major in terms of employments... would my salary be much lower if i major in economics as compared to business ?? any one have any opinions..

hope this helps

I really like your list of schools. Can you share some of your credentials so that we can help with creating a list of relevent universities.

You should choose NYU Stern or Michigan.

Econ is now administered by Tepper as well (In CMU) so since you get the Tepper degree it is much more valuable. The avg salaries in Tepper are comparable to the salaries in Ross/Stern/Wharton for last year and the school is rising every year with a 50% increase last year and a similar one this year(if you visit the site you can see the donations/investments made).

As for the social life, don't listen to rumors. Pittsburgh is very resourceful and fun and U.Pitt's campus is intermingled with CMU's. I don't want to repost all the info but you can check out answers to how good the social life is on the CMU boards.

add UVa to that list, for business AND social life.

yay!
Thank you everyone so much for replying.
Here's my credentials then, hope this helps:
SAT: 2280
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.24 (IB Diploma = inflated grades =P)

Once again, thanks everyone so much!

lalaloo-You should apply to Wharton then.

Yeah, apply to Wharton, Ross, Stern, Chicago (Economics), Northwestern (Economics), MIT (Econ or Sloan) and Tepper. Other schools worth checking out are Harvard (Econ), Princeton (Econ) and Stanford (Econ). You have the credentials, so you might as well go for the reaches.

With those scores, apply to Wharton for sure.
