but seriously

haha, that's brilliant. If you want to find out your accep... ahem I mean, decision, check online this Friday. But for the rest of you cough, I mean, the vast majority, I mean, some of you, your decisions will come out Sunday. Not implying anything, of course.
I can understand their immediate concern for accepted applicants, to visit and so-forth. But why do they have to wait for the rest of us? What do they have to think about? Or does stuffing envelopes with rejection letters just take that much longer?
And about the pattern over the past few years... does anybody have a link to something that shows that?

I don't have the link, but its the decisions topic from last year (almost 20 pages) has the same exact pattern: a flood of acceptances, followed by days of dileberation by everyone else, followed by a wave of waitlists/rejects.

I'm still desperately hoping that this is some ridiculous conspiracy created by overly anxious students.

Remember how some people got "IN" magazine?
Remember the blank line at the top of the status page that only some people had?

I'm not sure about the first, but I know that the 2nd one has been debunked - and hopefully this will in time prove itself false.

It's a big conspiracy I tell you, to confuse and annoy anxious students...

I'd like to think that, but unlike those, this one actually makes sense. =P

Plus, it has several years of reliable data behind it (very concrete pattern the last few years).

Well if there was a concrete pattern then I guess that isn't fair on CMU's part.

my online page says:
Unable to access applicant data for:
ID: ---
Last Name: i---
Birth Date:----

anyone else see this?

You might have entered it in wrong...

Not going to a college because of some unproven speculation is not smart...

Well, although it's unproven, it's very, very likely. A lot of evidence points to it.

You put in the birth date wrong. Instead of doing something like 07/19/1990, you did 07191990. Those "/" matter.

eh..this gave me hope

the 5th one from the top....

So... I dunno... maybe they're lying..maybe they're not.. the fact is.. I haven't heard of one person not getting in in the first wave of letters/online decisions

I have to say the wave thing seems pretty stupid, but you have to remember the admissions office isn't the school. Here's another example. Caltech last year didn't email students at all. They sent acceptances out priority mail and rejections regular mail. So my son spent five days waiting to receive his rejection. Not fun at all.
