If I get accepted into my top choice school, I feel like I would be the least academically qualified person they accepted. Like literally the last person they accepted. I applied to this school that basically has an affirmative action program that’s fairly selective because the criteria is much lower. (They don’t accept every student who qualifies) and yet here’s me who doesn’t qualify for regular admission and also doesn’t qualify for affirmative action, either. My SAT score was in their range for (AA students,) but my GPA was a few points lower. (I have almost an 80) and their bottom percentile is an 82 (average GPA school wide is a 3.3 or something) I remember speaking to an admissions counselor a few months ago in person and I told her my GPA and test scores and said “well, you should still apply because we look at students holistically and the fact that I mentioned them as my top choice makes a big difference.” We connected and talked a lot and she grew to like me, apparently. Anyways, I applied with skepticism and I got a letter in the mail saying “Dear ____ I am happy to inform you that you are academically qualified for the program.” I was thinking “huh wait whaaaaaaaa?” I know one girl who has a 90 average, but lower SAT, who got flat out rejected. Here I am not even touching 80 and only a 1510/2400 SAT practically saying I have a reasonable chance of admission, assuming I’m financially qualified. I can’t help but think if that admission counselor remembered me and if she didn’t if I would’ve been immediately rejected.
But seriously, how and why me ?
