My d’s experience was outstanding but not recent. She was there for voice. Your son/daughter should bring lots of bug spray and you should get your hotel reservations now for any performance dates as well as move in and move out. There is freedom to go back and forth to Lenox, they are transported by bus to the main Tanglewood grounds. In d’s case, the chorus rehersals were at nearby elementary school, not certain about her private lessons. As the food was pretty bad she did spend a good amount of money eating lunch out or getting coffee/easy snacks to bring with them as well as stuff she bought at Tanglewood shops- CD’s, sweatshirt. The housing was not co-ed and they were pretty strict about members of the opposite sex being allowed in each other’s dorms as there had been someone who had gotten pregnant in a previous year so they tended to hang out at night on the campus grounds which is one of the reasons why you need a lot of bug spray.

Is it easy to schedule extra lessons with Boston Symphony members and/or BU faculty? Thanks.

@crf123 I would definitely schedule your lessons early…my D had her regular ones, but even though we asked when we checked in, if memory serves me- it was 4 years ago- she was only able to get one more- as they said all the slots had been taken- best thing is email and ask but I wouldn’t wait. As for choice- we had a list of choices. If you wanted another BSO member, I am not sure what the protocol is for that- again- someone here may know or best bet would be to ask the admin- they have an office at BU so you might even be able to get your questions answered quicker by calling. Best wishes!

I was accepted to the String Quartet Workshop and Young Artist’s Orchestra, but I’m only able to do the string quartet workshop (much to my dismay! I really loved the repertoire for YAO ): )
