If anyone has knowledge about this school, particularly with regard to communications or business departments, I would be interested in learning more. Thanks.

I come from a long line of Butler alum. (back to at least great-grandmother...possibly great-great) and looked into it for my undergrad. Their business department is one of their stronger departments, but I'm not sure about communications as I didn't look into that major in high school.

It's located in a fairly nice area of Indianapolis and the city has made great strides the past few years to improve their image with successful beautification projects.

Hope that helps a little at least :)

^Any reason that you decided against attending? How are internships? Career Center? I did suspected that the business school would not be strong b/c of Kelley at IU.

I chose not to go to Butler because there weren't as many opportunities for me to switch majors if I decided business wasn't for me (which it of course was not). I speculate a few reasons to go to Butler over IU, one being size. Butler is a much smaller college than IU and that is attactive to many students. The second reason is likely because it is pretty hard to get into Kelley straight out of high school (I didn't).

Butler University is highly regarded in Indianapolis. It's a very nice school, bigger than an LAC, but far more personal than the big state unis. There are many big U business programs that are higher in the ratings than local schools like 'Butler, but if you have the type of student who would flourish in a smaller environment, this is a good choice.
Something that impressed me about Butler when I visited Indy was how well integrated it is with the city's events. Their presence was their from the cultural offerings (many Indy performing arts events take place on Butler's campus and the school has an outsanding performing arts department) to the Pacers' game. Butler is very active in Indy activities, yet it is in a residential part of the city near an area that is charming and reminiscent of many college towns.
The biggest drawback to Butler is that it is not at all well known to East Coasters. Don't know a soul here who has heard of the school. But then Iona which is a known local school here is not familiar to midwesterners.

cptofthehouse, you are right. I had heard of Butler, but really know little, and prior to looking at a few things about it the last few days I knew nothing at all about this school. Same is true from Bradley.

I can't tell you much about Butler except that it has a good reputation for its urban planning program. I have a friend whose son is there now who likes it a lot. But I'm really just chiming in to mention that I visited it last year while I was in Indianapolis because I had always wanted to see Hinkle Fieldhouse (the setting for the final game in "Hoosiers"). Hinkle was beautiful (to this basketball fan, at least) and the campus was nice, and nestled in what appeared to be a nice residential area.

I understand Butler also runs a tremendous overseas studies program if your son or daughter is interested in doing that during college.
