Do I need to buy a rug fo rthe floor in my dorm room or are the floors carpeted? Do most people bring a more comfortable chair for the dorm room?

I believe all the freshmen dorms are carpeted. They are industrial type- you could bring a little throw rug for a slash of color. A lots of kids bring those folding, round colorful chairs.

Thanks! I'm coming from the other coast and I need to know what to ship ahead of time.

if you have a ground or first floor the floors can be very clammy in the hot weather and then of course freezing in winter..advice if your roomie is from
northeast chances mom and pop are driving them so they will have a rug or
can easliy run down to lebanon to walmart, pier one etc
discuss with roommates so you dont buy or send redundant things such as
fridge etc

You can start shipping things to your self

Remember what ever you drag up there, you will eventually have to drag back home (or put into storage)

A study chair is a good idea if you end up studying in your room. My D has always preferred the library, so she's never bothered buying a study chair. I would say wait, you can get a ride later.

sybbie, can we really start shipping things already? Do they keep packages until we arrive, or is there some sort of time limit?

Camelia, it may be a little early to start shipping. They hold packages for about 2 weeks I think, and it seems to me there is a little more leeway during fall move-in time. Much of this info is buried somewhere on the website, maybe on the first years website - do they still have that?

Go to your shipper's website and there should be a map or chart that gives you the estimated shipping days, then count backwards from the date that you will be picking up your boxes (very possibly after your DOC trip), add a day to be safe, and that should tell you the date to ship the boxes.

They hold the packages in a couple of big tractor trailers that are set up behind the post office for move-in time, so your boxes should stay dry, although they may be a little beat up.

Camelia,

DD's ltr with dorm/roommate assignment & mail box number said that packages will be accepted starting early September.
