Buying a Car

Does anyone know which rental companies sell their cars?

Or has anyone made loans from the bank to buy a car? I'm thinking about making a 11,000 loan to get a car. I need to know how long I'd be paying it off and how I would get the loan.

Are you a new driver if so find a car off crags list they are sometimes cheap and they run. high chances are you will crash when you are young so its better to get an older car thats all steel.

I need a local place, buying off the internet is not permitted by my parents :(

So I guess I need advice on making loans for a car. Anyone?

Never pay that much for a first car.

Buying off Craigslist isn’t buying off the internet…they’re classified ads. Except instead of in your newspaper, it’s on the internet.

a lease might be better

dunbar, explain?

you probably won’t be using your first car all that much (and if you don’t use a car you’ve bought a lot you’ve lost money)

you can get a better car for the same monthly payment

you can get a new one in 3 years

Never, Never, Never buy a rental companies car. Do not…

Do not get an expensive car.

“The crash fatality rate (crash fatalities/100,000 population) is highest for 16 to 17 year olds within the first six months after licensure — and remains high through age 24.”

“Crashes are more common among young drivers than any other age group. In the United States, 1 in 4 crash fatalities involve someone 16 to 24 years old, nearly twice as high as other age groups.”

Phew, I will have had my license for 1 year in 5 days – no tickets or accidents. =)

However, my brother, in his first year of having his license, got hit on the side. It totaled his car…

That is why I say don’t get an expensive car. He was in an Audi, by the way…
(though a side note: He probably would have been dead if it wasn’t an Audi and in the civic. Audi is way safer.)

Why do you even want a rental car? Just find a cheap used one.

My 1996 Honda Civic FTW ;)

Craigslist is really the best way to go. It’s not buying online, it just has listings of people in your area who are selling used cars. You then go see it and do all of the other dealings or whatever in person. That’s how we got our 1993 Volvo for $3000. And it’s the nicest, best kept car I’ve ever seen.

Sounds like a good idea !

500$ haha, wow, if I found one for 500$ I most likely wouldn’t buy it.

I guess rental companies are off, thanks for the warning :)

10,000 sound good for a car with 40,000 miles on it ?

Go on Craigslist and Autotrader and find a few cars you like. Go take them for test drives and see what feels good. If you like it, GET A PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION FROM A REPUTABLE MECHANIC. This is not optional. You will get stuck with a lemon if you don’t.

You can’t get a loan for 10 grand if you have to ask the question.

Don’t buy a rental car, that’s a horrible idea. They keep those cars just maintained enough that they still run, but they’re trashed and beat to hell and back. Find a reliable car that’s being sold by owner and have it checked out thoroughly. A good first car is a Toyota, Honda etc from mid 90s-early 2000s.

Early 90s Lexus LS400… V8, RWD, and they’re tanks

I hate when people give the advice “get a cheap used” car. Repairs are going to kill you!

Get a 2006-2009 car. That way you are on the safe side. Invest $10k for a reasonable car that will last instead of $1000-2000 for a car that will die in 1-3 years.

You act like everyone has $10k to blow on their first car… also don’t forget insurance, which is going to be much higher on a newer car

Follow these tips and you’ll be sure to get a good used car

Or, forget chris 2k5’s advice, buy a used foreign car rather than American garbage that will break down in 1-3 years and enjoy your good ol’ Honda, Nissan, what have you for years to come.
